Amazon Is Giving Prime Members a Free Year of Grubhub+

Today’s food delivery goes way beyond the days of just pizza and Chinese food. Thanks to services like Grubhub, you can have your favorite meals from every place from McDonald’s to local mom-and-pops showing up on your doorstep. And now, if you’re an Amazon Prime member, you won’t have to shell out a dime to do it — beyond the cost of the food, of course.

Typically boasting a $9.99 monthly fee, Grubhub’s premium service Grubhub+ offers unlimited free delivery on orders of $12 (not unlike how Amazon Prime offers free shipping). Now, however, that price tag will fall by the wayside for Amazon Prime members.

Hot on the heels of its upcoming mega-sale Prime Days on July 12 and 13, the online shopping giant recently touted its latest round of Prime benefits: a free year of Grubhub+. Amazon stated, “Members can use this new perk in more than 4,000 cities with hundreds of thousands of restaurants across the country when ordering on Grubhub.”

“There’s never been a better time to take advantage of all the membership has to offer,” Jamil Ghani, vice president of Amazon Prime, relayed in a press release. “Prime already delivers great value for members. These new exclusive offers and experiences show how a single Prime membership unlocks a whole world of potential.”

Partnering with Grubhub almost ensures success in this vertical for Amazon, despite its own dabble in food delivery that left a now-defunct online restaurant delivery platform in its wake back in June 2019. To sweeten the deal, CNBC also reported that Amazon has the option to acquire a two percent stake in Grubhub as part of the agreement, with a potential increase to 15 percent based on hitting performance marks.
