Need Some Help in the Kitchen? Amazon Just Made All of Its Food Network Content Free on Their Devices.
If you have an Amazon Echo, Fire tablet, or Fire TV, you just lucked into thousands of hours of free on-demand cooking shows and classes. The Food Network Kitchen, which launched last October, is now available on all of Amazon’s various interactive devices. Normally the subscription service offered via Amazon’s Echo Show — which uses Alexa to make interactive content, live demos, and how-to videos — costs $4.99 per month. But with everyone tucked inside and desperate to better learn how to cook, Amazon and Food Network have opened up an entire free year of the service.
The service currently has thousands of on-demand classes, hundreds of step-by-step videos, tons of new and old episodes of Food Network shows, and tens of thousands of recipes. You can ease your way in with episodes of Rachel Ray’s 30-Minute Meals; remind yourself why restaurants are amazing with a binge session of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Drives; calm your frayed nerves with a Barefoot Contessa marathon; or go deep on a favorite ingredient with Good Eats. There are also shows made just for the app, including Better with Age, with comedian Courtney Rada learning to cook from other people’s nonnas.
But while you might have seen the shows before, what’s new are the live interactive classes — you get the ingredients ahead of time, then tune in at the set time to cook along with the class. That means if you have questions, you can submit them as you go (and if the chef didn’t get to it on-air, a moderation team will respond). Classes are taught by Food Network chefs like Michael Symon and Bobby Flay, as well as well-known food personalities like Rick Martinez and Mark Bittman, and bloggers like Dessert for Two’s Christina Lane.
To sign up, just head to the app on your device. Now, if only my Fire TV didn’t live in my bedroom!
