8 Weird Yet Clever Cleaning Tools Found on Amazon
Just because something is weird doesn’t mean it can’t be totally awesome. Take me, for example! (Hehe.) Or these muffin pan pasta cups! Or any of these cleaning supplies. Sure, they all look a little wacky at first glance, but they’re all incredibly useful and help to make tedious tasks way better — or, at the very least, way more fun.
Bonus: Everything on this list can be found for less than $20 on Amazon. Prepare your cleaning caddy — things are about to get weird.
1. Amagabeli Chainmail Scrubber, $12
This medieval-looking scrubber has a cult following among cast iron users. The stainless steel links are tough enough to break up cooked-on food but not so tough that they’ll scratch or ruin your carefully built-up seasoning. If you’ve been looking for a better way to clean your cast iron skillet, this is it.
Be honest: How many napkins or paper towels do you waste cleaning food off your forks before you put them in your dishwasher? And have you ever worried about cutting yourself while trying to clean off a chef’s knife? This little scrubber helps with both of those things. It has wrap-around bristles that’ll clean off stuck-on food and keep your hands safe as you work.
3. Whisk Wiper, $19
While the simplest way to clean a whisk is to just whisk some warm, soapy water, it’s not always the best way — especially when every bit of batter counts. Slide this onto your whisk before you start stirring; it’ll keep the tool elevated, should you have to put it down at any point, and then it works like a squeegee to clean the whisk and get every last bit of batter back into the bowl.
Got a pesky spot that just won’t come clean on a narrow, fragile carafe or vase? This scrubber features two magnetic silicone components — just drop one into the vessel and use the other piece to guide the cleaning from the outside. It’s best for spot cleaning (scrubbing a whole decanter this way would take forever!) and I think you’ll find it highly satisfying to use.
Enough with the endless scrubbing by hand! This kit comes with three brushes, which attach to your battery-operated power drill. Steal your drill from the garage and use it to clean your stovetop, oven, sink, sticky floors, and more.
6. OXO Good Grips Dish Squeegee, $5
Although you don’t need to rinse dishes clean before you put them in the dishwasher, you do need to scrape them free of food bits. (See: You Don’t Need to Pre-Rinse Dishes for the Dishwasher.) This squeegee, with a wrap-around silicone edge, can get into all those nooks and crannies not only on your plates but also on casserole dishes, bowls, and more. It can also be used to scrape down sink basins and will come in handy when you’re hand-washing dishes, too.
7. Hiware Duster Brush, $8
If you have blinds or vents in your kitchen, you know how quickly they can get covered with a film of dust and grease. With three blades, this little tool makes quick work of wiping those things clean. And you can squeeze as you work, which adds a bit of elbow grease to ensure a good clean. It comes with five microfiber sheets, which are washable and reusable.
8. Angry Mama Microwave Cleaner, $11
I’ve written about the Angry Mama before and half of you thought it was funny while the other half of you got, well, angry. I get that it’s not totally necessary (why not just put bowl of lemons in the microwave?) and a bit of a gender stereotype (why isn’t it an angry papa?), but it does work! You fill it up with vinegar, water, and a splash of lemon juice. Then microwave her until steam comes out of her head and softens stains and hardened food, which you can then just wipe up. For what it’s worth, there’s now also an Angry POTUS.
