Here’s How to Watch the First Episode of “Good Eats: Reloaded” Without Cable
Alton Brown’s cult-favorite cooking show Good Eats is getting a makeover for the Cooking Channel. There won’t be “new” episodes of the show (yet), but some of your favorite episodes of the defunct series are getting “remixed” — which basically means new updated scenes.
This is great news for anyone who has been missing Brown’s sharp sense of humor and ingenious cooking hacks in recent years, but what if you don’t have cable? Don’t panic, because the Cooking Channel is making it easy for anyone to watch the show’s premiere episode.
Here’s how it works: Simply head to the Cooking Channel’s website, where the first episode, in which Brown breaks down how to reverse sear a ribeye steak, is already available to stream for free. That’s right — you don’t have to pay a dime to learn how to prepare the perfect steak dinner from the master himself.
Alternatively, you can download the Cooking Channel app onto your Apple TV or your phone and stream it for free there too. Sadly, this is likely a one-time treat, to get Good Eats fans in the mood for the new season.

Without giving away too much, I can tell that you that the premiere of Good Eats: Reloaded is worth checking out. Brown revisits one of his old episodes, offers to correct some of his past mistakes, and incorporates his signature scientific knowledge to explain his cooking methods. A big piece of the episode is flashbacks so that Brown can make “repairs and renovations” to his original recipes. Prepare yourself for a hearty helping of nostalgia alongside your steak dinner. Brown also reveals some fun behind-the-scenes trivia about the making of the original show.
The Cooking Channel has yet to reveal whether the rest of the season will be available for streaming, but the premiere certainly whet my appetite for more of Brown’s culinary wisdom. After all these years, Brown is still the wacky mad scientist of cooking. His approach to cooking — he takes it seriously, without taking himself too seriously — is especially refreshing in the age of reality TV cooking competitions, and I’m personally excited to find out what he has up his sleeve on the next episode.
