This $4 Aldi Frozen Find Is Better than Any Ice Cream Truck Treat
When I was growing up, my sisters and I loved the ice cream truck. Anytime we heard the first few warbling notes, we’d start whining and begging our mom to let us please, please, PLEASE, get some ice cream. Most of the time, my mom resisted — she was supported in her health-food beliefs by her best friend who lied to her kids and told them it was the “music” truck passing through — but sometimes, her resolve wavered, and the three of us would scamper out the door and run after the truck and treat ourselves to some overpriced frozen iced milk. And, yes, it was the best thing ever!
Now my son’s at the same age I was when the “music” truck used to pass through. The problem is that we don’t have any trucks, minus the Amazon delivery ones, driving through our neck of the woods, so my son has to make do with frosty treats from the grocery store. Although he doesn’t get the thrill of chasing after a truck with a herd of other kids, he has some much better options — especially when I stock up on these cones at Aldi.
What’s So Great About Sundae Shoppe Strawberries & Cream Rose Cones?
Imported from Europe, these Sundae Shoppe Strawberries & Cream Rose Cones are his favorite. And you can totally see (and smell and taste) why. As you unwrap the chocolatey cocoa waffle cone, you’re greeted by the fragrance of strawberries. When you bite into one, you get layers of strawberry and vanilla cream, mixed with strawberry sauce, followed by bits of chocolate and white chocolate crunch on the cone. Not a bad way to cool down on a hot summer day!
If I let him, my son would finish the entire box in one sitting, but he’s old enough to share, even if he’d rather not. When I snack on one, I feel like I’m 10 years old again, except nothing I ever finagled to buy from the ice cream truck ever tasted this luscious.
At $3.99 for a box of four (barely a buck a cone), their berry-chocolate deliciousness makes them a worthy summer splurge. Even better, the hazelnut and vanilla variety comes out later this month and although berries and chocolate are more my son’s jam, he also signed off on the Nutella-inspired version. And while you don’t have to run after any trucks to enjoy this dessert, you can download the music if you’re feeling especially nostalgic.
