The $4 Aldi Fan Favorite I Wish I’d Tried Sooner
Grocery stores are a second home to me. It is part of my job as a recipe developer to visit warehouse stores, national chains, international markets, and neighborhood shops, and spending all of that time among the aisles makes it clear what each store does really well. One chain that uses its smarts all the way from the cart corral through the checkout counter is Aldi.
I recently stopped by Aldi to stock up on staples, adding bread and almond milk to my cart. Just before checking out, I remembered that my fridge was sadly yogurt-free, so I popped a container of Specially Selected Indulgent Greek Honey Vanilla Yogurt into my cart. Wow. It has been a long time since I have been so impressed by an impulse buy. Just when I thought I had tried every stellar supermarket staple on the shelves, Aldi surprised me once again.
What’s So Great About Specially Selected Indulgent Greek Honey Vanilla Yogurt?
Aldi regulars know that the store’s private-label brands rival the big national brands. When Aldi’s offerings exceed those expectations, it is time to take note. All Greek yogurts are thicker than regular yogurt, but this variety takes it to a whole new level of rich and creamy. The Specially Selected Indulgent Greek Yogurt also has the live and active cultures that are so good for gut health. The tanginess of the Greek yogurt is balanced with the sweet flavors of honey and vanilla.
Another point in the pros column remedies a pet peeve of mine regarding yogurt containers. While many yogurts eschew a proper lid for a disposable foil cap, this yogurt is fitted with a lid. Resealing the container to keep the yogurt fresh is easy — no plastic wrap required. This yogurt is so good that it’s not hard to see why Aldi devotees have voted it a Fan Favorite item.
What’s the Best Way to Use Specially Selected Indulgent Greek Honey Vanilla Yogurt?
Aldi’s Specially Selected Indulgent Greek Honey Vanilla yogurt is exactly that — indulgent. It tastes delicious on its own, but even better when paired with fresh fruits and granola in a parfait. Mix up your morning avocado toast with this yogurt. Use it as a shortcut when preparing frozen grape and granola yogurt bark or yogurt Popsicles; the honey and vanilla are already mixed in.
Normally I wouldn’t suggest that yogurt qualifies as dessert, but this yogurt has changed everything. Top a dollop with crushed cookies or a few fresh berries for a sweet bite at the end of the meal. You can even use this yogurt in place of ice cream in a banana split.
Find it in stores: Specially Selected Indulgent Greek Honey Vanilla Yogurt, $3.89 for 32 ounces
