When I was in high school (which was, um, decades ago), my parents used to make a special hour-long drive to the nearest Trader Joe’s. They’d travel all that way and only buy two things: a big bag of cashews and Peanut Butter Filled Pretzel Nuggets. I used to think they had silly priorities. That was a long time ago, though, and I’ve since not only come around to understand their motives, but to also follow in their footsteps.

See, the Trader Joe’s closest to my house is 90 minutes away. I usually beg my husband to make a pit stop whenever we’re on our way to see his family and then he and our pup wait in the car while I shop. While I do buy (way) more than two things, you can bet your reusable tote that I always load up on those Peanut Butter Filled Pretzel Nuggets! They’re salty! They’re crunchy! They’re creamy! They’re great on their own, but I’ve also mixed them into a party mix and my morning yogurt.

Of course, that 90-minute drive isn’t realistic all that often and I tend to run out of nuggets. Luckily, a few months ago I spotted these at my local (as in, 10 minutes away) Aldi. I had never seen these in my store before (please, tell me if you’ve been buying them for years!), so I scooped them up faster than you could say “road trip.”

Turns out, they taste exactly like the little bites I usually pick up at TJ’s. The ingredient list even looks almost identical. What I like the most about the Aldi version (aside from their sheer proximity to my house) is the fact that the 1.5-pound bag has a built-in zip-top seal, so that I can open the bag and close it up without having to get a bag clip. (I find the best bag clips are bit bulky and those take up valuable space in my new pantry setup.)

I’m not saying that I won’t ever make my family wait in the car for me ever again. After all, I’ve gotta stock up on TJ’s ahi tuna! (Don’t worry, I bring a cooler!) But I’ve been a little less desperate to go ever since I found this jumbo bag.
