The folks who run Aldi’s cheese selection deserve a promotion. In addition to its award-winning cheddar, fast-to-sell-out cheese-filled advent calendars, and heart-shaped wheels for Valentine’s Day, Aldi is about to launch what we consider to be its wackiest cheese assortment yet.

Hitting stores on February 6, you’ll find these oh-so-cheeky Happy Farms Preferred cheeses with very ridiculous, over-the-top artwork. Timed for the Grammy awards (which happen on Sunday), each cheese is a pun on a hit ’80s song. (Even though the Grammy awards are for new and current songs; why couldn’t there have been a “Thank Ewe, Next” or “Dancing with a String Cheese”?)

Here are the punny cheese names.

  • Wake Me Up Before You Goat Goat
  • Total Eclipse of the Havarti
  • Pour Some Gouda on Me
  • Girls Just Wanna Have Fontina
  • Sweet Cheddar of Mine
  • Billie Goat Is My Lover

I actually got them (like, physical samples) and gave them all a taste. Here’s what I thought of each one.

The cheeses will retail for $3.49 each and, again, hit stores on February 6.

Wake Me Up Before You Goat Goat

You guys, these are brilliant. The bag comes with five individually wrapped one-ounce medallions of smooth and tangy goat cheese. I can totally see packing these for a weekday lunch for something a little fancier than most other individually wrapped cheeses. (No offense, Babybel, I love you!)

Total Eclipse of the Havarti

I would buy this again — and not just because of the adorably punny name. (Fun fact: I used to make my old roommate sing Total Eclipse of the Heart anytime we ended up at a dive bar that happened to have karaoke. I’m so sorry, Amanda.) It’s mild, the texture is creamy, and it’s everything I want in a Havarti.

Pour Some Gouda on Me

This was my least favorite of all the cheeses (coincidentally the song the pun is based on is also my least favorite!). It was fine — it just wasn’t as caramel-y or nutty as my other top Goudas.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fontina

After trying to place this cheese for a few minutes, Lauren Masur and I decided that it tastes like those string cheeses that aren’t stringy. You know the ones I speak of: The ones you have to bite instead of pull apart. We both went back for more even though we still liked the Havarti the best.

Sweet Cheddar of Mine

Considering the fact that Aldi has a cheddar that won the gold medal at the 2013 United States Cheese Championship, I figured I’d be hard-pressed (the puns keep on coming!) to find another cheddar that I’d rather buy at Aldi. I shouldn’t have been so skeptical, because this one is good. It’s sweet and nutty. It didn’t have any of those crowd-pleasing cheese crystals, though.

Billie Goat Is My Lover

Another cheddar! This time with goat milk. And a fun Michael Jackson pun! This ties for first place with the Havarti. You definitely get a little bit of the funk from the goat milk, and the texture is slightly crumbly in a fun and unexpected way.

Are you as excited about these cheese as I am? Which one is your favorite — if you had to pick based off the puns and the labels?
