You may know German discount superstore Aldi for its affordable groceries and no-frills shopping experience, but as the chain grows in volume and popularity throughout the U.S., its home and garden decor are finally getting the recognition they deserve. In addition to plenty of bouquets, succulents, and potted flowers, Aldi is home to dozens of houseplants, too — all at unbeatable prices.

Snake plants and palms and ferns, oh my! The best part? Many of them come in several pot and planter colors, so they’re perfect for every room in the house — no matter the aesthetic. Wondering which is best for your space? Here’s how to tell, based on humidity, location, light, space, and more. Now, here are the low-cost houseplants waiting for you at your neighborhood Aldi store.

Best for low to medium light, this cute bamboo plant is a great way to add greenery to a space, without putting in much effort (or even soil). What’s more? Throw it in your fish tank for a natural way to add nutrients to your fish’s water.

Yes, really! This small fiddle leaf fig plant — aka the Louboutin of the indoor plant kingdom — is available at your nearest Aldi for only a few bucks. Add instant elegance and fanning leaves to your space, but remember that it loves humidity, lots of water, and sunlight.

Commonly known as the “snake plant,” sansevieria is super adaptable and almost impossible to kill, even for newbies. They’re drought-resistant and thrive in warm weather, and only require watering when the soil is dry to the touch.

If you’re hoping to add a little more color to your space, look no further. The bright, stunning cordyline has plumes of bright pink and purple and loves lots of sun, so put her next to a sunny window for best results.

5. 5″ Olive Tree, $11.99

This one isn’t quite under $7 — but it’s only a few bucks more, still making it a steal of a deal. Brand new to Aldi stores this September, this mini olive tree loves lots of light, is a great way to add a Mediterranean touch to your home, and requires surprisingly minimal care.

This gorgeous foliage can be yours — if you run to your local Aldi before it gets snatched up, that is. Philodendrons come in countless varieties, but are generally known as one of the most low-maintenance houseplants, so it’s great as a gift or for filling that hole on your shelf you’ve been meaning to do something about.

This spiky character is also known as the “dragon plant.” With spiny leaves and upward shoots, it comes in a range of colors — from green to red and purple — and can survive in lower-light conditions, so it’s ideal if you don’t have the most natural light in your space.

Make some noise for this cute palm! Turn your kitchen, living room, or even bathroom into a tropical paradise with this simple addition. Make sure to water it deeply (until water comes out of the drainage holes) and beware of pesky pests

9. Dieffenbachia, $3.89

In the vein of true transparency, admittedly I’ve killed a dieffenbachia or two in my day, but I’m hoping you have better luck than I do. (Plus, I paid a lot more than $4 for mine.) When you pick your “dumb cane” plant up, make sure to keep it out of direct sunlight and remove any excess water that could cause root rot.

The yucca cane is just as popular as it was 20 years ago — and we’re not mad about it. With bright yellow stripes down the leaves and a tall woody trunk, it adds some fun to any space. For fastest growth, ensure plenty of bright direct or indirect sunlight.
