For years, I’ve been a big fan of buying seafood at Aldi. The fresh (and frozen) salmon, the frozen shrimp, and the seasonal lobsters are all favorites in my family. And Aldi recently added a new item that I’ve been dropping in my cart: Fremont Fish Market Wild Caught Argentine Red Shrimp.

What’s So Great About Fremont Fish Market Wild Caught Argentine Red Shrimp?

Like the rest of Aldi’s seafood lineup, the shrimp are sustainably caught. These beauties are wild caught, are about 3 inches long, and don’t really shrink much with cooking. Sweet and succulent, they’re a seafood-lover’s dream (or am I the only one who dreams of shrimp instead of sugar plums?).

A one-pound bag of 20 to 30 shrimp costs $9.99. In the bags I’ve purchased, I’ve gotten between 23 and 25 shrimp. They’re strikingly similar to the Argentine shrimp I regularly purchase at Trader Joe’s, but they’re $2 cheaper.

What’s the Best Way to Use Fremont Fish Market Wild Caught Argentine Red Shrimp?

A whole bag can typically feed about four people — or it can just feed my one teenager, who, if not watched, will eat all 25 shrimp in a single sitting and then not eat any of the sides. Speaking of, I often use them in a shrimp scampi — just butter, garlic, shallots, if I have them, and white wine. I’ll serve them with rice or quinoa and a vegetable or two (broccoli, cauliflower, and spinach are my favorites).

I think Argentine shrimp would also make a stellar, showstopper of a shrimp cocktail for a holiday party, and if you want to gussy up your store-bought cocktail sauce just add a squeeze or two of lemon juice, and a teaspoon or two of both lemon zest and dill. It’s divine. They’d also be great in gambas a la plancha, the classic Spanish tapas, and would make for a particularly decadent shrimp roll sandwich.
