The $3 Aldi Cheese I Buy on Repeat All Year Long

Christmas in July isn’t limited to cheesy movies on the Hallmark Channel or craft fairs around the country. It’s also quietly celebrated in the refrigerated cheese section at Aldi stores everywhere. At least that’s what my husband says whenever I bring home a round of this Cranberry White Cheddar Cheese this time of year.

I’m pretty sure the first time I ever snagged a $2.99 half-pound round of this immaculate cheese, it was in November or December, and I was asked (read: assigned by bossy family members) to bring a cheese plate for some holiday event. In their defense, I collect cheese knives and plates like some people collect shoes, so it’s a reasonable request. 

I tossed this cheese — along with four others — into my cart, and I didn’t think too much of it. Once I got home, I decided that because I had never had this cheese before, I should probably have a little taste. You know, for research.

A sweet and tangy burst of cranberries was enveloped by the nutty creaminess of the cheddar. I had to have another bite! My husband walked in to find me “tasting” this new cheese so, of course, he had to try it too. We just had a few bites … and the next thing I knew, I was back at Aldi picking up another round for the party.

This cheese started out as a seasonal product, sold during the colder months, but it seems as if I’m not the only member of the Cranberry White Cheddar Fan Club because it’s now available year-round — and you can sometimes find it on sale for $2.49, as I did recently.

It’s great in salads, and I love adding slices of it to grilled turkey burgers. (It works well with beef burgers, too!) It also adds depth to grilled cheese sandwiches, especially if you combine it with one or two other cheeses. But mostly in my house it’s a snack, and very seldom is it not completely devoured by my family in one sitting.
