We bought a LOT of things at Aldi this year! Some of our haul came from Aldi’s core line (the staples that are always available) and lots were Aldi Finds (special items that come in and out of stores on a weekly basis; although it’s possible that the most popular items can be come full-time items). With 2020 fast approaching, we thought it’d be nice to take a trip down memory lane to think about the 10 best Aldi groceries we bought this year.

1. Chili Lime Cashews

We first discovered these cashews back in 2018 and we’ve been obsessed ever since. They’re salty, spicy, and citrus-y. And everyone we’ve ever served them to has thought we broke the bank buying up fancy snacks (even though we hadn’t!).

2. Park Street Deli Brownie Dessert Hummus

If you lick the batter in the bowl the second your brownie pan hits the oven, this hummus is for you. It’s brownie batter-flavored! Right after chickpeas, this hummus contains coconut oil, coconut milk, and vanilla extract. Use it as a dip for banana chips, strawberries, or graham crackers.

3. Cheese-Filled Ornaments

These are clearly not a year-round thing: The grocer launched these as Aldi Finds on December 4 (so you MIGHT still be able to score some at your local store). Each reusable plastic ornament comes with four pieces of cheese, and we had a few ideas for how to put them to good use.

4. L’Oven Fresh Zero Net Carb Bread

Perhaps you remember this one? The internet lost its collective mind over this keto-friendly bread. There were two main camps: the people who wanted it so badly they were paying big bucks for it on eBay, and the people who were dubious about it actually counting as keto. We got our hands on some loaves and looked into the carb-centric claims.

5. Simply Nature Seedtastic Bread

Dave’s Killer Bread has a serious cult following — and Aldi’s Simply Nature Seedtastic Bread is a pretty close match.

6. Who Needs the Bagel? Seasoning

Technically another Aldi Find (although we’ve recently seen it in our store, long after its supposed limited-time run), this seasoning blend is a must-buy. It’s saltier than the Trader Joe’s version, but that’s not a bad thing.

7. Mama Cozzi’s Take-and-Bake Pizzas

Aldi’s take-and-bake pizza is such a thing, it tends to sell out on Friday nights. The standard topping options remain the same week to week, but you’ll often spot Aldi Finds with all sorts of interesting combinations.

8. Southwestern Salad Kit

Earlier in the year we set out to try every single salad kit in America. Not only did we decide this was the best one you can get at Aldi, but 12 months later it’s still one of the ones we reach for the most.

9. Côtes de Provence Rosé

If you happen to see Aldi’s award-winning $8 bottle of rosé wine at your store this spring/summer, buy all the bottles. Or at least, a lot of them!

10. Simply Nature Frozen Fruit and Veggie Bars

One of our writers (who happens to be a nutritionist) turned us onto these bars a few summers ago. And now we keep a box in our freezers at all times. They’re made with real fruit, and have no funny ingredients, preservatives, artificial colors, or sweeteners.
