Albertsons Is Recalling 3 Varieties of ReadyMeal Seafood from 13 of Its Chain Stores
National grocery chain Albertsons has issued a recall that impacts not only the stores bearing its name, but several other chains operated by the company across 25 states. Consumers are being warned about the packaging on three varieties of Albertsons-brand ReadyMeals seafood packages.
The company issued a warning this week, bringing consumers’ attention to the Shrimp Cooked with Cocktail Sauce, Snow Crab Legs Imitation Surimi, and Crab & Shrimp with Cocktail Sauce varieties of the ReadyMeals.
According to the statement, which was also shared by the FDA, the meals had been distributed to stores without a vital warning against allergens including crustaceans, fish, eggs, wheat, and soy. The missing label information poses a potentially life-threatening danger for those with food sensitivities and allergies. The full list of allergens can be found on the FDA website.
In addition to actual Albertsons stores, the recall also impacts ACME, Andronico’s Community Markets, Balducci’s, Carrs-Safeway, Eagle, JewelOsco, King’s, Pak ‘N Save, Safeway, Shaw’s, Star Market, and Vons stores. The mislabeled packages were distributed in Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming, and Washington, DC.
The recall was prompted by Albertsons’ own “internal technical review” and at the time of the announcement, the company had not received any consumer complaints or reports of sickness.
If you purchased these items in the affected states, but are not sensitive to any of the listed allergens, there is nothing else for you to do in this instance. For those with allergies, however, you are urged to return the products to their point of purchase for a full refund.
