I grew up in Dallas, and the Texas State Fair was a very big deal. We even got a day off of school to go! The games and rides were a big draw, of course, but the food is what I loved the most. If it could be fried, you’d find it at the fair: fried pickles, fried Snickers, and even fried butter. My personal favorite were always the fried Oreos, which I was skeptical of until I actually tried one. When battered and fried, the Oreos became so soft they practically melted in my mouth — and I was hooked.

These air fryer Oreos are the best, easiest way to get your fried Oreo fix at home. You don’t have to deal with the hassle and mess of deep-frying, and they’re ready to devour in less than 30 minutes. Here’s how to do it.

What’s the Best Batter for Air Fryer Oreos?

Although a lot of air fryer Oreos are made by wrapping the cookies in crescent roll dough, I found dipping them in pancake batter to be a far superior method — it really provides that signature fried Oreo taste. To make it, you’ll mix your favorite pancake mix (any type works!) with milk, vegetable oil, an egg, and vanilla until a very thick batter forms.

What Type of Oreos Yield the Best Results?

This recipe works great with both original and Double Stuf Oreos — and any flavor you please. I’ve got my eyes on peanut butter Oreos next time I whip up a batch.

How Long Do Air Fryer Oreos Last?

These Oreos taste best right out of the air fryer, but you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

How Do You Reheat Air Fryer Oreos?

To reheat the Oreos, preheat your air fryer and pop ’em in until they’re warm and soft, about one to two minutes. Avoid reheating them in the microwave, where they’re more prone to drying out.

Nutritional Info

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup

    milk

  • 2 tablespoons

    vegetable oil

  • 1

    large egg

  • 1/2 teaspoon

    vanilla extract

  • 1 cup

    pancake mix

  • Cooking spray

  • 12

Oreos or cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookies, divided

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Heat an air fryer to 375ºF.

  2. Place 1/3 cup milk, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, 1 large egg, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract in a medium bowl and whisk until combined. Slowly whisk in 1 cup pancake mix and continue whisking until the batter is completely smooth, 30 seconds to 1 minute. (The batter will be quite thick.)

  3. Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper and lightly coat with cooking spray. Dip and air fry 6 Oreos at a time: Dip each Oreo in the batter, making sure it is submerged. Remove from the batter with a fork and let the excess batter drip off. Place in the basket in a single layer with some room around each one.

  4. Air fry until golden-brown on top, 4 to 5 minutes. Flip the Oreos over with a clean fork. Air fry until the second side is lightly browned, about 2 minutes more. Remove from the air fryer. Spray the parchment paper again with cooking spray. Repeat dipping and frying the remaining Oreos. Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy while still warm, or keep warm in a 275ºF oven.
