What did we do before air fryers came on the scene? I suppose we just cooked food in the oven and it was fine, but definitely took longer and didn’t get things nearly crisp enough. The hot dog is yet another food that’s faster to prepare and tastier when cooked in an air fryer — especially if you don’t have a hot dog roller grill like the pros do. If you’re using hot dogs with natural casings, they’ll get super plump and juicy in the air fryer and snap when you bite into them. Top the hot dogs to suit your fancy — there’s no wrong way to eat them!

Can You Put Aluminum Foil in an Air Fryer?

You can put aluminum foil in the air fryer basket, but make sure food is on top of it to weigh the sheet down. The fan action can get pretty wild in there when it’s turned on, and loose foil could get whipped around and get stuck in the heating element. You won’t need foil for hot dogs, though. In fact, placing the dogs directly on the wire basket will ensure the excess grease drips off.

Why Do People Slit Hot Dogs?

Some people make slashes in hot dogs before cooking to prevent them from bursting, but breaking the skin lets the juices escape, which results in a drier dog. The best way to avoid a bursting hot dog is to not overcook it.

How Long Does It Take to Cook Frozen Hot Dogs in an Air Fryer?

If you’re cooking frozen hot dogs straight from the freezer, it will take a few extra minutes in the air fryer. Instead of six minutes, leave them in for 10 to 12 minutes.

How Do I Get the Best Results from My Air Fryer?

Cooking hot dogs in the air fryer is easy, but a few tips and tricks will ensure success.

  • Don’t overcrowd the basket. Air needs to be able to circulate around the food, so don’t pile in too many hot dogs to cook all at once.
  • Flip instead of shake. It’s better to flip the hot dogs over halfway through cooking rather than shake the basket, which can result in random placement.
