A Warm White Paint for the Kitchen

White is a big deal this year. Several paint companies — Benjamin Moore and Glidden among them — announced shades of white as their official “color of the year.” But my favorite among all of them is Sherwin-Williams’ own pick for Color of the Year, Alabaster — which just happens to be all over the walls of my house, including in my kitchen.

White paint in the kitchen? Oh, yes! I must have went through over a dozen white paints, looking for one that felt clean and modern, not too yellow — but still warm enough to glow in the chilly Ohio winter light. Alabaster was the one I landed on, after much testing, and three years on, we love it. It’s warm without being cream or yellow, and yet cool enough to feel crisp and modern. Most of the house is painted in this color, including the kitchen.

When we bought the paint, we went with Sherwin-Williams’ Emerald latex paint, which cleans up beautifully. I’ve scrubbed walls to clean grease and splatters, and the paint stays gorgeous.
