A Nut Butter for the Holiday Season: Chestnut Butter!
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Ah, love that song. It’s always there to remind me that it’s chestnut season, in case I’ve forgotten. While I love just eating them plain as soon as they come out of the oven, I’m intrigued by the idea of chestnut butter.
Josephine of the blog A Tasty Love Story recently shared her recipe for chestnut butter, which she combined with walnuts for a very “mild and creamy” nut butter, which makes it a good base for a variety of pairings. (Unlike peanut butter, which has a strong, nutty flavor that you have to really want to taste, because it’s hard to mask.) She left her version plain, but as she recommends, you could add dates and honey for a sweeter spread, or garlic, herbs, and lemon if you’re in the mood for a savory snack.
