If there’s anything better than breakfast and lunch, it’s the merger of the two: brunch. The meal — its name is a portmanteau of “breakfast” and “lunch” —originated in England in the late 19th century and became popular in the United States in the 1930s. It further gained momentum after World War II when there was decline in churchgoers. Now, it’s a weekend staple.

But when it comes to preferences, there’s variation between favorites from person to person (no shock here!) and state to state.

To get insight on the brunch trends in all 50 states, Pinterest looked at what its users are searching for and pinning. According to the social media platform, the roundup isn’t top brunch foods by volume, but what people in each state like proportionally more than those in other states.

Some states have healthy favorites, like California (fig), Hawaii (green tea), Alaska (smoked salmon), Vermont (beets), and Nevada (avocado toast). Other states have a real sweet tooth, like Alabama (pound cake), Arkansas (cheese danish), Connecticut (biscotti), Maine (donuts), and Pennsylvania (thumbprint cookies). Boozier states include Illinois (mimosa), Kentucky (bourbon), and New Jersey (sangria).
