What’s the best way to pick out a great ear of sweet corn? We had some tips on this and other aspects of sweet corn the other day, and I loved this first comment about a funny way to tell the great from the not-so-great ears.

We were always taught growing up that ears with worms were the sweetest because they only choose the tastiest corn. This was probably just to keep up from complaining about finding worms when we shucked corn, but I still smile to myself when I remember it. But you know, one year we didn’t see a single worm and the corn wasn’t as good. Last year, every single ear we picked had a worm, and it was the tastiest corn my grandpa had ever grown. Maybe the worms do know. – from reader named confounded

Too funny — and who knows? Perhaps the worms really do know best!
