A 4-Year-Old Ranks the New Halo Top Ice Cream Flavors

I confess that I’ve been way behind trends, especially when it comes to frozen desserts. But the grocery store gave me a coupon for Halo Top ice cream last week, so I finally caved and picked up a pint of strawberry. It got mixed reviews from my husband, but an enthusiastic thumbs-up from my 4-year old daughter. So why not let my daughter, who loves all things frozen (animated and edible), try out Halo Top’s eight new flavors and rank them?

After making sure she ate dinner, I opened our freezer and showed her all the Halo Top pints. Her reaction? “Ice cream! I feel excited because we get to eat ice cream. I love ice cream.” Clearly she was the best person, along with her stuffed animal sidekick, Corn Dog, to do this taste test.

Here’s how we conducted it: We didn’t tell her what she’d be tasting, and after she tried each one, we told her what flavor it was. After tasting all eight, we let her come back to any flavor if she wanted to taste again. Here’s her totally unscientific, toddler-palate ranking.

“No, I don’t like that one. It has a flavor I don’t like.”

“It tastes like vanilla cream with cinnamon and chips. Are there pieces of cookie in here?”

“Light green! It is chewy and sweet. I just like the mochi.”

“Banana, chocolate, vanilla. What I love about it is that there’s chocolate; there’s nothing I don’t like about it.”

“This tastes like Cheerios and granola and honey. Can I eat this for breakfast?”

“This tastes like candy bar ice cream with granola. I like it because it taste like chocolate and candy.

“Rainbowwwww. FRUIT! It’s so pretty because it has all the different colors: berry, orange, raspberry, mint, and green apple. It tastes like fruits and vegetables.”

“It tastes like a sandwich frosting cookie with maple syrup. I love that it tastes like cookies. It reminds me of sweet potatoes. I love it a lot.”
