7 Ways to Turn an Avocado into a Snack
An avocado snack may just be the best snack. It’s creamy and extra satisfying, thanks to its high level of healthy fats, which means incorporating it into your afternoon snack break will ensure you’re full until dinner rolls around. But while simply piling it on toast is undoubtably a solid decision, it’s only just the start of the countless ways you can turn avocado into a snack. Here are seven suggestions to break you from your avocado toast habit.
1. Sweet Avocado Cream
Blend a ripe avocado with a splash of condensed milk to make a sweet avocado cream. Spread it on toast or crackers, or dunk everything from pretzels to apple slices in it.
2. Avocado Tostada
Grab a corn tortilla, top it with a nice handful of shredded cheddar, and broil it for a minute or two until the cheese gets nice and melty. Finish it with slices of avocado and a drizzle of Sriracha.
3. Avocado Cottage Cheese Dip
Mash together cottage cheese and chunks of avocado until creamy. A pinch of flaky salt, a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds, a drizzle of olive oil, and a few grinds of black pepper. Top with torn herbs before digging in.
4. The Reverse Avocado Toast
Switch up the avocado toast order. Sear a pitted avocado half, skin-on, in a hot skillet until it just starts brown. Turn it onto a plate and finish it with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, a bit of honey, red pepper flakes, salt, and toasted panko breadcrumbs.
5. Fruit and Avocado Kebabs
Skewer chunks of watermelon and avocado and you’ve got fruit and avocado kebabs. Sprinkle on a little Tajin, the Mexican spice blend of chiles, lime, and salt for a spicy, salty finish.
6. Avocado Frosty
Toss a ripe avocado with a few spoonfuls of Greek yogurt, a bit of honey, a dash of ground cardamon, and ice for an extra-cold snack.
7. Chocolate-Coated Avocado Slices
Make your avocado snack extra sweet. Dip firm slices of avocado into melted dark chocolate and then sprinkle them with flaky sea salt for good measure.
