A little whipped cream goes a long way to make any dessert feel even more special, but add a little something extra to it and it's suddenly even better than you ever imagined. Sprinkle about a half-teaspoon or so of any of these seven ground spices into your bowl of heavy cream before you whip it for an instant upgrade to everyone's favorite dollop.
First Make Whipped Cream
Before you can go about flavoring your whipped cream with all sorts of fragrant additions, make sure you're whipping it up like a pro. And don't think cream is the only way to do it — you can make this luscious topping with coconut milk, too.
Whip It Up
Cinnamon is never a bad idea. We recommend spooning cinnamon-spiked whipped cream over poached pears or baked apples.
4. Garam Masala
This Indian spice blend has the usual sweet spice players, like cinnamon and cloves, but with the unexpected twist of cumin and black pepper. Try it on a rich chocolate dessert for something a little unique.
6. Pumpkin Pie Spice
When you can't decide between cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg, turn to pumpkin pie spice, which has a little bit of all of these spices along with cloves and allspice. Apple pie would love a spoonful of this, as would, of course, anything with pumpkin involved.
Turmeric lends a pale yellow hue to whipped cream, making it extra nice to look at and even nicer to dig into. It's slightly pungent, slightly bitter flavor is a great contrast to nut-based desserts like pecan pie or walnut cake.
