5 Ways to Make Dinner with Pizza Dough
A ball of store-bought pizza dough can help you make dinner. On busy weeknights, its versatility and convenience just can’t be beat. And while you can obviously make great pizza from pizza dough, the truth is that you can make a whole lot of great things beyond pizza from the dough. Here are five ingenious ways to turn a one-pound ball of pizza dough into dinner.
1. Bake flatbreads for sandwiches.
A sandwich is one of the easiest dinners around. Make some faux gyros by rolling out small balls of dough into flat rounds, grilling or baking them, and using them as your base for leftover grilled chicken. Or even if all you have is deli meat, wrapping it up in warm flatbread is a satisfying way to make it dinner.

2. Make “sausage in a blanket.”
Tear off small pieces of pizza dough, roll them out, and then roll up your favorite cooked sausage in the dough. Bake these dinner-friendly pigs in a blanket at 375°F for 15 to 20 minutes until golden-brown.

3. Whip up a savory galette.
Roll the dough into roughly a 12-inch round, top it with a mix of vegetables, fold it loosely around the edges, bake it, and you’ve got yourself a savory galette. It’s equally rustic and impressive and only needs a green salad to call it dinner.

4. Fold up some empanadas.
Empanadas are the perfect hand-held dinner. They’re comforting and satisfying, and also freeze well. Roll out small rounds of pizza dough, top them with your filling of choice, fold them, and bake them for an easy meal.

5. Turn it into bread bowls for soup or salad.
Serve dinner in an edible bread bowl and the crowd will cheer. Divide the pizza dough into four equal pieces. Roll each piece into roughly an 8-inch round. Place four oven-safe bowls upside down on a baking sheet, brush the outside with olive oil, and lay the rounds over the outside of each bowl, pressing down on the sides slightly. Bake at 375°F for 15 to 20 minutes, until golden-brown. Remove the pizza dough bowls from the actual bowls and fill them with salad or a hearty soup.
