I honestly can’t remember the last time my fridge was yogurt-less. Greek yogurt is great for breakfast parfaits and smoothies, and a spoonful of this essential ingredient is also the perfect way to add creaminess (without the actual cream!) to salad dressings.

Here are five of our favorite salad dressings that are made more magical with Greek yogurt.

1. Green Goddess Dressing

Fun fact: This colorful dressing was created in the 1920s when a chef at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco wanted to honor actor George Arliss who was opening in a play called, “The Green Goddess.”

Many versions of this dressing have emerged since then. My favorite uses Greek yogurt as a substitute for the mayonnaise and sour cream called for in the classic recipe.

2. Ranch Dressing

The next best thing to making ranch dressing with tangy buttermilk? You guessed it: Greek yogurt! The thick texture makes for a creamy dressing, and it’s packed with a whole lot of classic tang.

3. Poppy Seed Dressing

When combined with a spoonful of mayo, some Champagne vinegar, ground mustard, and of course, poppy seeds, Greek yogurt makes a nice base for a simple poppy seed dressing.

4. Avocado Yogurt Dressing

Turning avocado into a dressing without it feeling like thin guacamole can be tricky. But Greek yogurt is one of my favorite ways to make it stand out. Along with a squeeze of lemon it adds a bright tang and gives your dressing extra creaminess and body.

5. 2-Minute Creamy Salad Dressing

Make this dressing a couple times and you’ll never need to look at the recipe again. It’s the simplest way to turn a few spoonfuls of Greek yogurt into salad dressing and it’s versatile enough to partner with any type of salad. The recipe calls for regular whole-milk yogurt, but I’ve been using thicker Greek yogurt since day one and it makes a delicious substitute.
