3 Ideas to Steal from This Under-the-Stairs Pantry
We love this brilliant use of space from the real-world kitchen of Shawna Mullarkey, who turned an unutilized coat closet under her staircase into a smart and pretty pantry.
Even if you don’t have found space under the stairs (or if you just lack stairs entirely!), there are still some ideas here you can apply to your own pantry.
1. Add a rolling cart.
Store all of your I-use-these-every-day staples on an easy-to-wheel cart that can be stationed anywhere you need it. This way, there is no need to go back and forth to the pantry a million times. All your essentials can be rolled over to be within arm’s reach.
2. Be smart about item placement.
Think long and hard about where everything should go! It makes life so much easier later on. For example, dishes you don’t use that often can go up on the top shelf, and items like snack foods can be placed in see-through containers at a kid-friendly height, which will empower them to get their own treats (meaning less work for you).
3. Opt for shallow shelves.
While it may be tempting to install shelving that can hold four deep rows of canned goods, it might not be the best idea from an organizational standpoint. The more you cram onto the shelves the less you can see, which means you’re more likely to buy something you already have. Try to keep your stash to one or two rows max.
