When you’re hanging out in the frozen aisle of the grocery store, what pint of ice cream calls out your name? Is it something nostalgic like vanilla? Something you and your mom used to eat together? Or do you gravitate towards something a little more sophisticated like salted caramel, or a local brand that just does ice cream better than everyone else?

We asked 25 people in various creative fields (mostly food) to tell us their favorite pints of ice cream. From TV personalties like Giada de Laurentiis to chefs like Dale Talde, these 25 individuals have strong feelings on the subject and have stories to accompany their choices. Go ahead and use their picks to inspire your next shopping trip.

Some of the responses were extremely surprising. For one thing, the answers were all over the board, featuring a mix of small local places and national brands.

And then some people — like Giada, for example — had real down-to-Earth answers. Spoiler alert: Giada picked Häagen-Dazs, a supermarket classic! (She says the brand makes a chocolate ice cream that’s almost as good as the chocolate gelato she’s eaten in Italy!) One of our favorite bloggers, Joanna Goddard (of Cup of Jo), has a weak spot for an Ample Hills pint that’s loaded with pretzels, potato chips, Ritz crackers, and M&Ms. And Joy Wilson, the blogger behind Joy the Baker, voted for Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia because she craves those sweet cherries and slightly bitter dark chocolate encased in cream.
