I honestly relish the opportunity to stay inside on a rainy summer day. While I am definitely an individual who can't get enough sunshine, a break from blue skies can actually feel quite special. Sure, your barbecue may have to be rescheduled, but in its place you've got a welcome excuse to be a bit of a homebody until things clear up. From comfort food to baked treats to freezer meals, here are 20 things we love to busy ourselves with in the kitchen when the rain is coming down.

Bake Away the Rainy Day

When the sky is gray, cranking up the oven to bake something sweet just feels right. Cozy up to a few treats like brownies and cookies, which you can enjoy now and keep enjoying well after the sun returns.

Cook Up Some Comfort Food

A rainy summer day is a perfect excuse for cooking up some comfort food — but with the sticky weather outside, it's comfort food that won't weigh you down too much.

Preserve & Get Ahead

Use your time indoors to bottle up some of summer's best flavors and make things like tomato sauce and fruit jam. Or prep some easy meals that you can reach for on sunnier days when you'd rather be outside.
