14 Awesome Things We Saw at Fancy Food Summer 2015
The Fancy Food Show is a mecca for anyone who loves specialty foods. Specialty foods are, well, the special things, the little luxuries, the premium pint of ice cream or fancy ketchup or great bar of chocolate — the add-ons that go beyond commodities and that make cooking and food even more delicious.
For three days the Javits Center in New York City is filled with hundreds of thousands of things to try, along with throngs of people clamoring to find new favorite things. This year was no different – from tomato butter to camel milk to a delightful beet kombucha, here are the 14 things we’re excited about right now.

1. Tomato Butter from City Saucery (above)
If you’re as obsessed with everything tomato as I am, you need to try this butter. It’s kinda like applesauce meets tomato in the best way possible. I imagine it would be an excellent substitute for ketchup.
2. Camel Milk from Desert Farms
Have you ever tried camel milk before? You need to get on that.
3. Lime, Hibiscus, and Clove Soda from Joia
There were a lot of different kinds of low-calorie or natural soda at Fancy Food this year, and our favorite might have been this lime, hibiscus, and clove soda from Joia in Minnesota. Super refreshing, great flavor.
4. Saffron Rose Popcorn from Masala Pop
We love Neha’s Masala Pop popcorn! The Saffron Rose is amazing, as is this savory flavor (shown above) based on her mom’s own recipe.
5. Soda from Som
I’m obsessed with Pok Pok‘s drinking vinegars, and now they’re coming out with a 100-calorie soda! It should be available towards the end of summer or early fall.
6. Veracha from True Made Foods
You like Sriracha, I like Sriracha – therefore you need to try this vegetable-heavy hot sauce. Good texture, great taste.
7. Tandoori Yogurt Popcorn from Pop Art
Stop what you’re doing and go find this popcorn. I mean, seriously — yogurt popcorn? I could eat this by the handful.
8. Kenyan Black Tea from Ajiri Tea
This tea is delicious and has a great story. The goal of the company is to promote employment for women in Kenya through making this tea.
9. Beet Kombucha from Health-Ade
Hey, all you kombucha addicts out there – you need to get your hands on this stuff. Slightly earthy, just a little sweet; this kombucha is so good.
10. Dharma Lea Dutch from Maple Hill Creamery
There is no end to the amount of cheese at Fancy Food, but this really stood out to us. You might know Maple Hill Creamery for their yogurt, but you really need to try their cheese.
11. Pure Maple Water from Drink Maple
First there was regular water, then coconut water, now … maple water? Maple water is not just water with a hint of maple syrup — it’s the stuff you get straight from the tree! Also, delicious.
12. Watermelon Water from Juisi
Faith had to stop and talk to the people from Juisi, who make this not-too-sweet watermelon water. She had seen it at the airport before, but never in stores. They’re going to start selling online soon.
13. Toasted Coconut Chips from Dang
I could eat these things as a snack forever. I particularly loved the plain toasted coconut chips. They’re great by themselves, or over ice cream and yogurt.
14. Sweetened Condensed Coconut Milk from Nature’s Charm
Yes, that is in fact a fountain full of sweetened condensed coconut milk. We were super excited to see this alternative to regular sweetened condensed milk. It’s an easy dairy-free substitute in recipes.
