This week the Summer Fancy Food Show, where too many delicious things to count are showcased, descended upon New York at the Javits Center. For close to five hours I walked around the show, tasted everything I possibly could, and tried to find the best trends and new products around. Here are a few of the interesting bites I tasted (or saw) this year.
1. Triple Cream Lemon Yogurt from Siggi's
I've been a huge fan of Siggi's for years, so I was super excited to hear about this new product from them that just launched this year. It's basically the dreamiest, most luxurious full-fat yogurt ever, and the lemon flavor is just the right amount of tart. The yogurt comes in a smaller container (only four ounces) compared to their other yogurts (portion control, right?).
2. RXBAR Kids
This was maybe the smartest business decision I saw from a brand at the show. In case you're not familiar, RXBARs are bars with minimal ingredients and added protein (from egg whites), and they taste like a dream. The new kids' flavors are really good, and something I think the market is honestly missing right now.
3. Peanut Lemongrass Sauce from Haven's Kitchen
This delicious sauce packet right here is something that can help you get dinner on the table faster. And isn't that what we all want? There are a bunch of dinner kinds (including a chimichurri one. which I adored), but my favorite is this peanut sauce.
4. Ginger Almond Milk from Califia Farms
This new drink is the warm blanket of the drink world. It's so comforting, warming, and delicious, and you should probably buy it immediately.
5. Cabbage & Cukes from Cleveland Kraut
The first question I asked myself when I saw this product was how have I not seen this before? It's essentially traditional sauerkraut and cucumber medallions that are fermented together. Yes, together! So smart! Not to mention it tastes pretty great, too.
6. Baked Peanut Puffs from P-nuff Crunch
If you love cheese doodles, then you need to try these peanut-flavored puffs. I can see myself enjoying this snack when I'm traveling.
7. Pure Green Coffee from Sunup
This new drink has already received a ton of attention from the show. It's essentially raw coffee — you don't roast it before consuming — and it tastes a little more like tea, but has the benefits of coffee.
8. Watermelon and Mint Spritzel from CideRoad
One of the biggest trends I saw in beverages this year from Fancy Food was watermelon-flavored drinks. I really loved this take on the switchel (with a spritz!) in watermelon and mint. Super refreshing.
9. Banana Flour from Pereg
You might have heard of one-ingredient banana ice cream, but what about one-ingredient banana flour? Yes, flour! Apparently it's really great for gluten-free baking.
10. Lime Grain-Free Tortilla Chips from Siete
Last year I wrote about the almond flour tortillas from Siete that were getting a ton of hype at the show, but this year I was more drawn to the chips. They aren't new this year, but if you haven't tried them I highly recommend them. They are super thin (my favorite style of chip), lightly crunchy, and delightfully limey.
