This $8 Rosé from Aldi Is One of the Best Bottles of Wine in the World

There’s good news in store for rosé-lovers: An affordable line of the pink wine just won a prestigious award for its cost and quality. This means you can enjoy high-quality rosé without having to break the bank.

An $8 bottle of rosé sold at Aldi, a supermarket known for its affordable prices, is now an award-winning bottle. The Exquisite Collection Cotes de Provence Rosé 2016, an in-house product for Aldi, was the winner in the International Wine Challenge’s Great Value Awards for the under £8 (roughly $10, at £0.78 to the dollar) category.

The winning rosé’s profile is described as having an aroma of “strawberry, white fruit, and subtle spice,” with a taste that is “a delicate yet intense burst of summer fruits with a subtle quartzy spice.” Aldi recommends drinking the pink wine with grilled fish, salads, or as an aperitif.

“Being recognized yet again for the quality of our wine is a testament to the hard work our talented buying team put in to deliver exceptional products at unbeatable prices,” says Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying, in a statement.

The award was given after a panel of wine experts did two week’s worth of blind testing. To qualify for the awards, a wine has to be readily available in stores or online and should be a gold or silver medal-winning product in the main International Wine Challenge, which is known as the Oscars of the wine industry. The Exquisite Collection Cotes de Provence Rosé 2016 won a silver medal in the main awards.

“The International Wine Challenge Great Value Awards are there to show shoppers that delicious wine doesn’t need to come with an expensive price tag,” says Charles Metcalfe, co-chairman of the IWC, in a statement.

Online, the product is featured on Aldi’s U.K. site, with a note saying it is sold in store only. This suggests the wine is not available in the U.S. just yet, but we can keep our fingers crossed that Aldi opts to hook Americans up with some delicious, but affordable, rosé.
