Limpa [lim-pə] n. Swedish rye bread Limpa is a sweet, lightly spiced rye bread that is traditional in Sweden - especially around the holidays. The bread includes molasses or brown sugar for sweetening, and the spices may include caraway, anise, cumin or fennel. Here's a recipe for limpa that includes anise, molasses, and orange zest. Here's another that is adapted for a bread machine. More on bread below... Limpa and other sweet breads are often more involved and time-consuming than simple artisan breads like no-knead bread but they have wonderful tastes and often family tradition too. Do you have any traditional breads that you make around the holidays?
