ABC is premiering a new daytime food show next week called The Chew. It will be in a talk show format and co-hosted by Mario Batali, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly, Daphne Oz, and Michael Symon. The video snipettes they've released so far are lively and informative, with lots of kitchen tricks and techniques, lessons on ingredients, and recipe demos.
The show's concept is to encourage people to celebrate life and enjoy good food with their friends and family. I'm mostly familiar with Mario Batali and Michael Symon, two chefs whose food I respect and cookbooks have taught me a thing or two. Carla Hall seems like she would be a lot of fun and she knows a thing or two about the kitchen. She has an interesting recipe for pie dough that uses a few techniques that I'm unfamiliar with such as making the dough in a stand mixer and dissolving the salt and sugar in water before adding it in.
The Chew looks like it's entertaining, very high-energy, with lots of primary colors and laughter and rollicking music. I can't see sitting down in the middle of my day, five days a week, to watch the hour-long program. But I'm curious enough to TiVo an episode or two to check out later in the evening.

Straw Mat from The ...

I'll tune in - as long as there aren't too many shots of Mario Batali's awful shoes!
I really liked Carla when she was on Top Chef, and the fact that it includes Clinton Kelly has me intrigued. Hmm!
where do these people get the time to tape a 5x/ wk. show?
i really like Carla Hall, as well as Michael Symon, Mario Batali, and Clinton Kelly. If this ends up on Hulu for free, I'd watch it.
I love Carla, so I am really looking forward to seeing her. Still, I will probably only watch once a week or so.
heck yes!! I feel like I've been waiting forever for it to start! Very excited :)
couldnt Mario Batali dress better for the promo photo? seriously ...
Couldn't watch the video (probably blocked in Canada, dang it) but the show sounds promising! I'm all for any cooking show that actually teaches cooking. I'm so very done with the battles and wars and reality crap they are showing on the Food Network these days.
I dunno. I find Carla obnoxious and the only saving grace is Clinton. I'm really just wondering how they'll find enough material for a daily talk show.
I don't normally bother watching any daytime TV but I'm going to give it a try just because Carla Hall is on it.
I've read terrible things about that Alicia Silverstone lookalike, and people who become famous just because mommy and daddy are annoy me.
Clinton, I like, but only know him as a fashion expert... he knows food too?
No.
Terrible title for a show (yuck!). And I'm not impressed with ABC for the more expensive program of original drama which occupied this time slot for 41 years. Staying at home with the flu will never be the same again (and the last thing I want to watch when I am sick is a food show).
---err, I am not impressed with ABC for CANCELLING the program which occupied this time-slot for some 41 years.
As this should be available to my non-cable tv, I'll have to check it out. We'll see if they annoy me or inform me.
