A recent poll of our food team revealed something surprising: Every single one of them has a Cuisinart ice cream maker. And almost everyone else we know has one of these things, too. This might not seem all that shocking, until you realize that an Amazon search for "ice cream makers" reveals 921 results made by several dozen brands. Plus, you guys, KitchenAid makes an ice cream attachment for its stand mixers.

What is so great about Cuisinart's ice cream makers? How have they managed to churn their way to the top? Here's what some of our staffers had to say.

First, Some Background on the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker

Cuisinart came out with ice cream makers in 1998. And since then, the company has sold more than six million machines. That's an average of more than 315,780 ice cream machine sales a year!

The company has machines that make ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, and even frozen drinks like margaritas. And just last year, Cuisinart launched the Fruit Scoop, which is the only ice cream maker on the market that can make frozen desserts using fresh fruit. (Other machines and hacks online show you how to make ice cream out of frozen fruit, but this machine works with fresh.)

Our team members have a few different models — and none of them disappoint!

Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker Highlights from Our Food Team

Cuisinart Cool Creations Ice Cream Maker

"The bowl freezes faster and better than other ice cream machines I've used, which is key when you're making ice cream with little kids. And you can get a spoon in there to taste test without stopping the machine or running into the blades. Another plus for the kiddos." Meghan Splawn, Associate Food Editor

Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt, Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker

"Mine comes in super-cute colors, it's reliable, not too noisy, and I feel like it's pretty well-priced — compared to others on the market — without sacrificing quality." Kelli Foster, Assistant Food Editor

Cuisinart Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Ice Cream Maker

"I love my ice cream maker! I have nothing bad to say about it, except I can't figure out the best way to clean the bowl while still keeping it semi-frozen. But that's a question regardless of the brand! My model isn't too bulky and it's easy to keep stored away when not in use." Sheela Prakash, Assistant Food Editor
