When Is a Pizza Not a Pizza?

A common argument I find myself in with other people, especially New Yorkers, is what qualifies something as a pizza. There are so many things called "pizza" that consist of some kind of carb as a base that is loaded with topping(s) - so where do you draw the line and say enough is enough?

I know people who strongly believe that a white pie, a "pizza" with just cheese, isn't actually pizza. And what about the international variations of pizza? Breakfast pizza? Flatbread with tomato sauce? Whole wheat crust "pizza"? I mean, this can get tricky really fast. 

What are your thoughts on pizza qualifications? I'm so curious.
