Maybe it's the fact that I'm missing the dairy I cut from my diet, but I feel really excited about discussing yogurt today. My favorite is a full-fat variety that's rich and creamy and able to stand in for all sorts of naughty ingredients:
It's Mountain High full fat yoghurt. It's my favorite because it has great flavor and I can purchase it at the local health food store in a 64-ounce size for an absolute steal.
This is a must, as I use (used) it on cereal, in soups, on desserts - you name it.
So there you have my favorite yogurt. What's yours? Is the plain yogurt you use a different brand from the fruity, snack-style yogurts you buy?
Let us know and tell us why in the comments below. I'd love to hear all about it, as I'm having my dairy vicariously through reading your comments!

Well my absolute favorite would be fromage frais but since we can't get that in the US I prefer any store bought organic vanilla sweetened giant tub of yogurt since they're usually the best deal for organics.
i love and consume large amounts of fage no fat greek yoghurt. i love that i can add what i like to it. i no longer crave a fatted yogurt.
sometimes, i treat myself to a siggi's ...but wow: $$$
I'm a Fage non-fat fan myself. I get it by the tub at Costco and often purchase more than one at a time. I eat it for breakfast, desert, as a stand-in for sour cream in baking and savory dishes. Love the Fage!
I've tried many varieties, but I always go back to my favourite -- Liberte Set Style plain yogurt. It's 6% MF, not overly tangy with a lovely natural sweetness at the end. And two ingredients. It can be difficult to find but it's worth seeking out.
I also love Liberte Mediterranee Lemon on occasion.
Oh, and it's incredibly thick.
Stoneyfield nonfat plain in a little cup! With blueberries on top every day for breakfast.
Definitely creamy plain Greek yogurt -- especially FAGE 0% or 2%. Love to eat it with blueberries best. I like it so much, the sweetened flavored varieties no longer appeal. It's great to bake with, too.
Siggi's pomegranate passionfruit... so good. I don't really like their other flavored skyrs though.
FAGE 2%, nothing even comes close to it!
I LOVE Chobani Yogurt! Costco now sells it in a pack of 12 of blueberry, strawberry, and peach flavors. So good.
Another vote for Fage 0%. Usually I have it with fruit and/or cereal for breakfast. But I also use it in place of sour cream at times. I've also been known to add honey or sugar to it use it for a dessert topping.
Chobani for healthy yogurt.. and Greek Gods for a full fat special treat!!
Brown Cow cream top yogurts are thick and creamy and incredibly delicious. My favorite flavor (aside from plain, of course) is the maple flavor.
I don't eat dairy, but I really enjoy Turtle Mountain's So Delicious Coconut Yogurt, both the plain (which has a subtle coconut taste) and vanilla. It can be expensive, so I alternate between buying that and the soy stuff (which I don't really enjoy, but the wallet can't always accommodate the palate).
I really like Greek Goddess, even more than Fage. But, now I am really wanting to try Siggi's & Liberte.
Wonder where I can get it in the Midwest??
Am I allowed to pick about eight? No? Okay...
#1: Liberté Méditerranée Coconut
Runners up:
Liberté Méditerranée Apple Crumble
Strauss Family Creamery European Style Whole Milk Vanilla
Siggi's is some of the CRAZIEST yogurt I've ever had.
Mountain High Vanilla Fat Free yogurt is my absolute favorite. I don't do well with the full fat variety, but the fat free is right up my alley. :)
One of my favorite books, SuperfoodsRx, reccomends 1 cup of yogurt a day. This was difficult for me to get into, I don't like Dannon, Yoplait, etc. So I use Fage 0% for most everything. But sometimes as a treat, Bellwether sheeps milk yogurt is so so good. I really wish I had some right now. I also want to make a list and try the other brands that are being suggested.
Fage is always good. I like 2% with honey, and if I'm feeling very adventurous, Trader Joe's has a chocolate flavored European-style yogurt that is so decadent and delicious.
Also, Ronnybrook coconut or Chobani pineapple are both pretty great. I guess I really like yogurt.
I'm all about Fage - but have learned that the large tubs of yogurt that are so cheap are LOVELY if strained over a cheesecloth overnight. Sounds like a big deal, but it's not - and it's kind of goddess-like to drape the cloth over a strainer over a glass bowl. In the morning you're left with a gorgeous thick yogurt rid of all exta liquid - and you can do with it what you like. For me, that's either blueberries or whatever Bon Maman we've got going in the 'fridge. Cherry's the best - but put it in the blender with a little bit of juice to get a great puree!
I love my Fage 2%--but I'm also a fan of my homemade yogurt, mixed with some jam or homemade vanilla simple syrup. Sometimes I strain it to make it Greek-like. Other times, I eat it as-is, which is a little more runny like the Australian-style yogurt. Either way, it's cheaper than store-bought and I can make it with grass-fed, organic milk!
Like cuishanying I adore Brown Cow maple or plain.
I tried Turtle Mountain's So Delicious Coconut plain yogurt, but like Rachele said, it's a little pricey to get every day.
Lately though, it's been Yoplait's Greek Honey Vanilla since I have to go to a different store than my usual one for the Brown Cow.
I like Fage as well. Tried Siggi's once because I'd heard so much about it I wondered what I was missing. Apparently that would be the requisite taste buds to appreciate the distinct flavor because that stuff tasted so bad to me I wanted to scrape my tongue to get rid of the taste. Guess I'm lucky since Fage's much cheaper.
CHOBANI! 2% when I can find it. Our Sam's is now carrying the 64oz fat-free tub for under $5 which is a great deal.
Fage, Fage, Fage! Never ate yogurt until I discovered my Fage 0 !
Definitely Stonyfield... all flavors and sizes, I don't discriminate. It's organic and has the thick texture of greek yogurt but isn't too sour. After seeing a lot of rave reviews, I purchased several flavors of Siggi's when it was on sale, but they were all hard to choke down and I had to mask the taste with granola and honey.
Hands down, Dana. Great authentic Middle Eastern style yogurt with real body. Gotta find it in international food stores around here. Fantastic for making tzaziki sauce or spreads. It's the best!
Ooh, Liberte coconut flavor is tops for me - how can 17 grams of fat per 6oz be wrong? It should be called yogurt-butter or something:)
Brown Cow Cream on Top all the way. I love vanilla and peach mango.
@happycamper: I've drained "regular" yogurt before too, using a piece old sheet if you would believe it, with magnificent results.
BROWN COW. Cream top or low fat (which is surprisingly rich). F'ing delicious.
Fage 0%
We really love Fage 2% at our house and splurge on the 35 oz. container weekly! We recently tried a brand called Noosa that is also divine! If you see it, buy it! Super creamy.
Greek Gods honey yogurt is a favorite treat. I especially love it in place of ice cream or whipped cream for strawberry shortcake.
I went completely dairy-free for 6 months when I discovered my baby had a very sensitive dairy intolerance. And then he outgrew it! I am still doing the happy dance.
Your day will come too, but until then, know that I am loving my yogurt (and cream in my coffee, butter on my toast, and cheese on my plate) and thinking of you :-)
Chobani! I really like the peach, but all of the flavors I have tasted so far are pretty tasty.
I like Fage and Chobani equally, but usually buy Chobani since it's cheaper. Brown Cow is my favorite non-greek yogurt and I like buying Stonyfield fruit yogurts for a special treat. Lemon is my favorite yogurt flavor.
@painoh83 - live in the midwest(ish) and you can find Siggi's at Whole Foods. I have also seen it at some health food stores like Wild Oats or an equivalent.
like everyone else, i love fage 0%, I also love stoneyfield yobaby- it has a delicious cream top. not low calorie, but so creamy and delicious. just because it's for babies doesn't mean I can't eat it too.
My favorite yogurt is White Mountain Bulgarian Style Yogurt, made in Austin, TX. Whole Foods used to carry it years ago & when they went public it seems, they quit carrrying it.
Almost worth a trip to Austin.
Fage 2% plain to which I add either sugar-free raspberry or strawberry preserves. Though it's pretty awesome plain too. And I've also eaten it with whole blueberries. I have tried Chobani (don't like it at all) and the Fage 0% and I keep coming back to the 2%. A little fat is OK.
Aside from home made greek yogurt, my vote is for Olympia's Krema Greek Yogurt - Plain. I can eat it's creamy like ice cream. I don't know if its available outside Canada. Like Liberte brand (which is really good ) it is made in Quebec, where I am from. I buy it in British Columbia, where I live.
hands down my favorite is homemade yogurt. i make a half gallon a week with full fat raw milk. the best storebought choices imo are milk thistle and hawthorne valley farm, both full fat.
Plain Whole Milk yogurt from Strauss Creamery. It's very close to a creme fraiche or fromage frais. With granola and a little honey. YUM!
Horizon yogurt full fat with creme on top with apricot jam...YUm favourite.
Liberte is good, but it's around 50% full fat, and actually more calories than horizon. pass
No Fage in Canada, so I've been eating the Liberté nonfat Greek yogurt. But now that President's Choice makes one -- and it's more than a dollar cheaper per tub -- I'm switching brands.
Fage 2% plain. woot woot!
I must admit that I like my yogurt on the tart side, and no commercially available product really gives me the flavour I want. So, I have been making my own!
http://girlfriendlifeline.blogspot.com/2011/02/making-home-made-organic-yogurt.html
I really enjoy it - and I like to strain it so that it is thick like the Balkan/Greek style yogurt! Yume!
Liberté Méditerranée Blackberry... good lord, it should be a controlled substance.
1) Brown cow maple
2) Ronnybrook peach
3) Liberte anything
Fage plain 0%. I also use it instead of sour cream.
Stonyfield lowfat French Vanilla. Occasionally Brown Cow Maple if I want a bit sweeter.
Greek Gods for Greek style yogurt, but it's facing a strong challenge of late from Tillamook. Their real vanilla bean yogurt is pretty amazing.
I can't help myself - my nightly dessert is always Tillamook Key Lime Pie or Marionberry yogurt. So amazing.
I'm addicted to Liberté plum & walnut, but really don't need the sugar. I think the best plain yogurt comes from Nancy's. Really, really delicious.
Stonyfield Lowfat French Vanilla and Stonyfield YoBaby (even though I'm in my 20s). I used to buy Brown Cow but I can't find it anymore. The Maple flavor was my favorite.
I used to buy the store brand but one day I realized my yogurt and dish soap had the same exact scent! I quickly replaced both :)
I agree with Susannah. White Mountain yogurt from Austin, Texas is the best! I wish we could get it in the East Coast. Different than the Greek style yogurts, White Mountain is bracing with a clean milk taste. I loved it with Texas grown cantaloupe or honeydew melons.
I couldn't possibly pick just one but my favorite yogurts are Liberté Lemon, Coconut, and Plum Walnut, and Siggi Orange ginger and blueberry when I want something thick and tart. These are treats for me, but plain Fage 0% is great too with cereal, granola, and fruit too.
Fage in all it's forms. And like a true addict I have managed to get my friends hooked. It is all about the texture.
when visiting my family in the Seattle area, my mom always stocks the fridge with Yami Vanilla yogurt. When I was a kid she used to sing to us about "yummy Yami" Now, Yami has their own Greek Yogurt called Zoi. The honey flavor is amazing. I go through cartons of it each trip home. I've written Yami begging them to sell it on the East Coast, or at least mail me some in DC, but for now it remains a special treat for those in Western Washington State.
Mountain High's Plain yogurt is my favorite yogurt in the US, because it is closest thing to homemade I have ever found and has great taste. (I grew up with homemade yogurt at home)
I'm surprised there haven't been more votes for Strauss Family Creamery! Everything they make is delectable!! Their Vanilla Whole Milk Yogurt is my absolute favorite--so creamy and smooth that I drink it right out of the big tub.
I absolutely love the Söbbeke brand, they have all kind of yogurts! they have one with vanilla and mango that is delicious but the one I but the most is the 1.5% fat, I mix it with honey and nuts and you have the perfect snack or light dinner!
Wallaby's dark chocolate flavor is my absolute favorite!
I also LOVE Brown Cow plain, vanilla, maple, and cherry vanilla.
My absolute favorite breakfast is plain yoghurt mixed with chopped fruit, nuts and a touch of Avocado honey. Some combinations I love:
pineapple or mango with macadamias
saturna peaches or white nectarines with pecans
honeydew or cantaloup with walnuts
FAGE 2%...Chobani is too citrusy. I top my yogurt with BareNaked Maple Pecan granola in the morning that keeps me satisfied all morning. Yum
Liberte is SO delicious. worth the calories/fat because the sweetness is right on, the flavors are natural and yummy and the texture is great. not too tart, not too sweet. I like chobani OK, but fage and other yogurts are too tart, or too sweet, or too fakey. blech.
i didn't have it in washington state after I moved from NYC so if I went to visit I would make a special WF trip to stock my suitcase. no explosion :) now that i'm in the bay I have almost one a day. I was so excited when WF had it for 3/99c and 79c for a while. so good...
Liberte Mediterranée Lemon
I often eat this in place of ice cream.
OM NOM NOM NOM
***Brown Cow Greek Yogurt-Strawberry***
Siggis always seems oddly gritty to me, but the same dairy makes Evan's Farmhouse yogurt, which is a bit thinner and so so delicious. They use flavored maple syrups for sweeteners and is just the right amount of tangy. That said, it's sooo expensive, so I usually buy whatever's on sale at Whole Foods in bulk!
Old Home vanilla -- probably only available in Minnesota and surrounding area.
Dannon coffee flavor -- WHY does it only come in individual servings?
I guess no one here has tried Cabot's yogurt? The full fat (10%!) plain greek yogurt is my favorite.
Also brown cow maple and stoneyfield's full fat vanilla or banilla in the quart containers.
I like Chobani but find it too sweet...and I like Siggi's but find it just a little too sour. Is there anything in between sweetness-wise that still is as high in protein and low in fat? Anyone have recommendations?
Mmm Liberte! Especially the lemon and the coconut.
Noosa! Noosa!
Am I the only one that eats full-fat yogurt? If I'm in a regular store, I'll try to buy whatever is unflavored organic there is, although I do love Fage. If I have extra money, I'll get up early and go to the farmer's market. We have a brand here called Lucky Layla that does some of the best drinkable yogurt I've had.
I like any Greek yogurt really, but I'm not super pumped to eat...HOWEVER, on Monday I tried a flavored Siggi's (blueberry) and I seriously can't stop thinking about it. First time in my life I've actively craved yogurt. I think that's saying something.
PS- I put just a little honey on it because like the commenter above Siggi's is kind of sour.
Like a lot of people above, I'm a Fage 2% devotee. Most commercial yogurt is way WAY too sweet for me, so I like to buy the plain Fage and add my own sugar and vanilla and eat it with some granola. MMMMMM. The most perfect breakfast!
My favorite was the now-departed Trader Joes fig-flavored Greek yoghurt. Discontinued, which is probably for the best, because I coudn't resist it.
wallaby organics pineapple lowfat yogurt= heaven in a cup!
http://www.wallabyyogurt.com/html/products_lf.htm
There is such a thing as maple yogurt? Wow! Have to find that. Thanks.
I love Fage fat free and Liberte, but yesterday I ate a Liberte plum and fig that I just bought. It was atrocious! Had to throw it out and go brush my teeth! All the other Liberte flavors are good.
I have splurged on Siggi's before and it is a truly unique yogurt. I would pick that for my favorite boutique brand. Both the plain and blueberry are worth the try.
For everyday use, I am usually content with whatever fat-free or low-fat brand is cheapest. But now that I've seen so many fans of Fage and Chobani I'll be sure to try it.
Never had I had Skyr and other fantastic dairy products until being in Iceland last spring... AMAZING. I dream about the fresh butter at the farms we stayed at!
http://brittanyanddylan.blogspot.com/2010/06/crossing-off-big-one-12.html
I get Greek Gods my plain and snack yogurt. It's super thick and has a great texture. If you strain it through a coffee filter overnight, it's spreadable like cream cheese by morning (and about 10% of the calories). The honey variety is my go-to dessert. I'd gladly choose it over ice cream (but maybe not frozen custard...I am a midwest girl, afterall).
I'm not a huge yogurt fan, especially the plain stuff, but my doula brought me a container of Liberte Mediterranee Lemon after I had my baby (said it was what she wanted most after having her baby); it was such a yummy treat!
I also like Island Farms fruity yogurts and there's a brand I've had in hotels in Wash. & Oregon that I love.
I have not yet found a yoghurt that compares the ones I had in Australia, but my favorite right now is Wallaby's Vanilla Bean.
Like a lot of other people, I enjoy Fage yogurt (0%, 2%, and full fat). I am also a fan of Trader Joe's Greek yogurt.
Redwood Hill Farm goat yogurt! Great texture and never too sweet.
Fage 2% with cherry. I've tried most other commercial yogurts and that one is my FAVORITE. I don't like any of the other greek yogurt brands.
i like plain chobani. not too creamy or runny.
