Q: I have a castle-shaped bundt pan that makes fun cakes, but is incredibly difficult to clean.
Is there a trick I'm missing to get all the cake crumbs out of those nooks and crannies and turrets?

Editor: Kristen, have you tried a brush? A kitchen brush seems extra helpful in cleaning those nooks and crannies.
Readers, any advice?

tooth brush?
blast with an outdoor hose on a high-pressure setting?
The baby bottle brushes work great for things like this.
A good soaking, followed by a blast from the sink sprayer (turn the pan upside down, spray up into it, so gravity helps get the stuff out), has always gotten mine clean, but mine isn't as fancy as the one depicted. If that didn't do the trick, I'd go get my Waterpik; I've had to use it before to get bits of cheese out of a cutter I used to make decorative cheese bits, and the needle-like spray works great -- not surprising, since getting the last little food bits out of small crevices is exactly what it's designed for!
Baking soda. Always the answer.
I second the power nozzle on the outdoor hose idea! of course if you live somewhere with snow in the winter, better not bake any castles come the colder months :-)
My more elaborate bundt pans I always wash in the dishwasher. I could scrub all afternoon to get the nooks but a run through the washer and its spotless.
Baby bottle brush. So handy.
Dr. Brown's baby bottle brushes, more specifically. There's a "big" one, ~1.5'' in diameter, but also a teeny pipe cleaner-y one for the stupid straws that go in the bottles. They'd totally work.
Use the jet setting on your outdoor hose nozzle.
I second the toothbrush. A dedicated one to cleaning dishes and appliances, not the one you use everyday.
I would think a good soaking, a sink sprayer, and a run through the dishwasher would work.
I'm also a fan of the baby bottle brush, but one with a smaller nipple brush inside the handle. Target sells these for about $2, and the two sizes can usually scrub any nooks and crannies you have.
but do anyone have a good recipe for just this castle bundt cake??
I have one good but I would love to have more which I know works well.
Go to a headshop (smoke shop, where they sell "water pipes" and other paraphenelia). All of them sell brushes of various sizes to properly clean the various pipes, bongs, etc...some brushes are firm bristled, some are softer, there is usually a lot to choose from.
LOL I think that's the first time a baking question on here got a response of "go to a headshop" Got a laugh out of that one!
i found this on an amazon review. ive tried it on a nordic ware bundt pan which is not as intricate as the castle, but i am really sure that it will work. it definitely works on my bundt. read on: "...Also, about cleaning the pan, after I pop out the cakes, I slip the STILL WARM pan into a sink of HOT water (NO SOAP!) and let it soak while I finish the icing. Then I simply use a soft brush to swirl out the crumbs in each section (NO scrubbing!) and rinse the pan, then set it in the still hot oven to dry. READY for the next time! For a lifetime of use, Nordic Ware pans LOVE this method - especially the NEVER scrub and NEVER soap part! I have had some of my Nordic Ware for DECADES and they are in BRAND NEW condition. Try it!"
