What! It's the end of September already? Starting next week, it's open season on Brussels sprouts, folks. Not to mention butternut squash, pumpkins, crisp apples, and blushing pears. Maybe a bit of kale and chard, and a smattering of cabbage and endive. Fall food is here, and I can hardly wait to pick some up. What about you? Are you clinging to summer, or embracing fall? What's cooking this weekend in your kitchen?

Straw Mat from The ...

It's supposed to be hot here this weekend, nothing like fall yet. I'm trying out two new recipes: Jenna Weber's pumpkin granola and Michael Symon's tomato ricotta tart.
Those fig tarts are *gorgeous*!
Just made some chicken and kabocha kabobs with rice pilaf for dinner. Tomorrow, a big pot of stamppot is in order, in honor of my friend Katy's recent move to the Netherlands. She says the food is pretty awful, but I'm still intrigued by this traditional recipe!
Baked Bree's kings ranch casserole for dinner tonight! Vegan apple bananna bread, apple cake, pumpkin bread and asian pulled pork in the crock pot. Hello fall!
Not much cooking for me this weekend. To motivate my Fall food cooking, I'll be attending the Chicago Gourmet event this weekend. Maybe I'll get inspired somewhere in between and head to my kitchen.
Slow-cooking a large pork butt. Roasting squash - either Hubbard or carnival. And making a deep dish apple pie with apples we picked at a local orchard this week. I picked up some Maple's cardamom-ginger gelato to go with it. Mmmmm,...
Think I'm going to welcome fall with a portabello + spinach lasagna and some pumpkin bread.
I just fixed a big enchilada casserole for dinner with re-fried beans and lime rice. Hopefully we have left overs for Saturday. Haven't planned for Sunday yet guess whatever is fresh at the farmers market.
Just finished some beef short ribs, which are probably going in the freezer. Did a bolognese and spaghetti for dinner at the park tonight. My toddler is going to have red sauce everywhere, but it just sounded good to me. And a fisherman at dinner last night gave us some urchin they had just caught, so probably have that tomorrow night.
@operagirlcooks: if she is near an urban center and a fan of spicy food, she should seek out Indonesian restaurants
That bakewell tart looks luscious. Here, I'll be making the first pumpkin-pepita muffins of the season, and the first butternut squash soup. And peanut butter cookies from this site (the "husband-winning" ones).
Already did the cooking because I'm going to Cape Cod this weekend!
Just cooked a pot of Rancho Gordo beans, adding the leftover brisket from earlier in the week (beer, onions, crushed red pepper and jalepenos). Welcome fall!
Well, it's spring here, but still cool enough for hot food (and all the autumn recipes on here are tempting me!). Dinner tonight was maple-roasted potato, butternut squash, and carrot, and... well, a pre-made mushroom and not!chicken pie. (Fry's. Fantastic, definitely becoming a freezer staple!)
This weekend will see a wholemeal dark chocolate chip banana bread, a slow-cooked shredded barbecue beef joint, a big pot of beans and many, many plates of figs, goat cheese and honey.
It got legitimately cold where I'm living, and my vegetarian boyfriend went out of town so I'm making a huge pot of this (http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2008/11/veselkas-cabbage-soup/) as I type! The porky, allspicey broth with sauerkraut hits me right in my frozen Eastern European soul. I'm also going to make up those spiced pear muffins posted here earlier in the week, they look perfect for munching in big sweaters while watching the leaves fall.
Kemp's Black Beans in the pressure cooker (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Kemps-Black-Beans-238086) for tomorrow night. Feeding the freezer some roll out cookie dough (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Basic-Butter-Cookie-Dough-13504) and pesto. Also making pizza sauce for later in the week. Garden clean out!
I'm working through what's in my freezer...it'll be salmon, or sausage based. :/
I've been on a pumpkin kick lately so I made Nutella swirl pumpkin muffins and for dinner soy, ginger, and maple-glazed salmon! Yum! For those Nutella lovers out there, I'll be posting the muffin recipe soon on my blog www.bitesforbabies.com!
