Happy weekend, kitchen friends! What's cooking? Are you headed out to the farmstand for your winter hoard of squash and sweet potatoes? Are you cooking something warm and dreamy? Or is it still pleasantly warm in your corner of the world, with zucchini and tomatoes to spare? Tell us, and give us a peek into what you're cooking this weekend!

Floral Drink Dispen...

I'm being bold this weekend and I can't wait! I'll be making: Lamb chili, eggplant and beef casserole (martha stewart recipe), Pumpkin Bread via Americas Test Kitchen, and I want to try a pumpkin and sausage bowtie pasta dish. CAN'T WAIT!
I'm going to be doing some thick cut pork chops and trying my hand at some miso-glazed brussels sprouts with bacon as a side. Probably some kind of Sunday sports spread too, sausage stuffed mushrooms and artichoke dip of some sort!
Pancetta and leek risotto for dinner. And lots of pumpkin bread loaves as treats for the family. And crockpot applesauce just because.
Duck confit, Hasselback potatoes with garlic and thyme (cooked in the fat from the confit), steamed broccoli, and steamed garlicky cauliflower dressed with lemon, olive oil and chili flakes.
It's Thanksgiving on Monday here in Canada, so I'll be making pumpkin pie. I kept expecting to see posts as a lead up to the holiday, then remembered that this is an American site! Enjoy the bounty of the fall harvest, everyone!
to wordnerd28, from a fellow Canadian, Happy Thanksgiving! We have a family wedding on Saturday, so won't be doing much cooking. Enjoy the pumpkin pie!
I just prepared a ridiculously early (for us) dinner - a lentil stew with carrots and onion, and steamed rice finished with dried apricots, a splash of rose water, and lemon zest, all topped with tangy yogurt.
Tonight we are having Korean short rib tacos. The beef short ribs are going on hour 6 in the crock pot and the house is smelling heavenly.
Tomorrow we are heading out to the pumpkin patch and also do some apple picking so I am guessing pies will be made. Even though we are still in the mid 70's I have been wanting to make chili so there is a good chance that will happen but a trip to the farmers market can change everything.
Toying with a couple ideas. Since I have farro I was thinking if I ground it roughly I could make polenta with it, they kind that the Italians made before nightshades and corn from America changed everything. On the other hand, I got a neat-o romenesco broccoli head at the co-op and I was thinking of making risotto with that, also possibly with farro...

you all are cooking way fancier than i am, hah. maybe that's because i'm just a broke college student right night. egg sandwich with srircha! i work at a gourmet sandwich shop and brought home a BLT made with goat cheese and basil mayo, that was pretty delicious. and i might cook up some tortilla soup later - cheap, easy, and so delicious.
CJV. Lamb chilli sounds good.
Before I forget: Happy Thanksgiving to you Canadians TheKitchn'ers. this weekend its my daughters first Thanksgiving as a Canadian. I'm pretty excited!
I'm going to be making mughlai chicken Biriyani and raita on Saturday. This one is going to be from my moms secret recipe and my first stab at some fine indian cuisine. for dessert we will probably have some Indian mithai sweets. On Sunday I am planning a wicked meat pie with veggies and Monday a nice roast lamb, roasted taters (potatoes) n some gravy, good old English style food for a homesick born and raised Londoner (me), need a taste of home. Plus cannot stand Turkey!!!! I have a 1 yr old, don't have the sense to plan a more ostentatious meals. Keepin it simples [sic]
Everyone in my house is sick so I've got a big old pot of matzo ball soup on the stove simmering right now. The bland, plain kind. Nothing fancy just Jewish penicillin.
After watching couple videos about stuffed chicken breast with wrapped bacon, I will try it this weekend. Just made shepherd's pie, it was great. I put more different veggies than meat. I will make again carrot, green turnip pork soup with dates and almonds. Watercress soup sounds good.
It's Canadian thanksgiving! I'm making turkey for a crowd, wild rice and mushroom stuffing (gluten-free), mashed potatoes, green beans, and pumpkin panna cotta>. And I've got a jar of my Grammie's cranberry sauce to go with our meal.
Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends!
My honey is out of town today, so I think I'm going to try a new recipe for beef and barley soup and some roasted broccoli for my dinner. And I've got some fall canning to finish up: Rum Raisin Pear Butter, Peach Blueberry Jam, and some other jam to use up the rest of the pears. Tomorrow, when he's back, I'll make some baked chicken, salad, and that new recipe for pepperoni pull-apart bread.
I will be trying the broccoli "magic" sauce via delicious links tonight. And will make brownies with coconut oil instead of butter for the first time (lactose intolerant husband). And I picked up a spaghetti squash, which I've never tried before. I think I'll top it with sauteed leeks and white beans. Happy Thanksgiving, Canada! Monday is Columbus Day here in the USA. Schools are closed, so I'll probably do some cooking projects with the kiddo. She has a cough, so maybe we'll make chai.
Stuffed and rolled breast of turkey (for 8); bread sauce; cranberry relish and cranberry shiraz sauce; the butternut squash with herbed breadcrumb crust featured here this week; shredded brussel sprouts with bacon and Alsatian apple tart.
@stitcher - Could you share your crockpot korean short rib recipe? TIA!
Made Chili in the Crockpot while I was out at Yoga and running errands. Made Green Chile/Cheddar Cornbread Muffins when I got home to go with. Tomorrow we get treated to my Mother in Laws cooking for Grandpa's 90th birthday. Should be a fun day. Planning on Crockpot Beef Bouginon, Chicken Cordon Bleu, and Wild Rice & Cranberry Stuffed Pork Chops this week.
Triple chocolate chip (vegan) cookies. Instead of 3oz of chocolate chips, I used 150g (about 5.2oz), then another 100g melted and drizzled on top, AND a quarter cup of cocoa powder in the dough.
Three hours ago, there were twenty-one of them. Now, there are nine... (I only had two myself, promise!)
Used this recipe with the modifications mentioned, and this? Is the end result!
What isn't cooking this weekend? I'm making pesto lasagna for the block party, baking delicata squash, turning out my bi-weekly batch of yogurt, probably roasting a turkey breast, and trying to find turnip love with an old Roy Andries de Groot recipe involving maple syrup & mustard.
I haven't been doing much cooking, because of Canadian Thanksgiving - my grandmother is hosting our dinner, and she's been very firm that she doesn't need anyone to bring anything, thank you. :P (In a family where my mom, my sister, me, and both my grandmothers LOVE to cook, negotiating who gets to make what and when gets tricky!) Last night, however, I made red lentil dal, stir-fried bok choy, and basmati rice - simple but satisfying and warming. And for a late breakfast today I've made this: apple-cinnamon pull-apart bread. It'll be heading into the oven shortly, and we'll eat it with the sweet, sweet local fall strawberries I snagged at the farmer's market yesterday.
It looks so delicious!! Since I getting married, I cooked everyday. Cooking is no longer an entertaining, but I see your dishes that burns my passion, even oil will spilt on my dress. Come to see my shop http://www.bridalinlove.com.
