Happy weekend fellow cooks and bakers! What's cooking this weekend in your kitchen? Are you setting up for Thanksgiving dinner? Or ignoring it completely and making something else seasonal? We're thinking about another batch of maple blondies, and also considering the beauty of perfect mashed potatoes. What about you? We'd love to hear what's happening in your kitchen this weekend...

We're all about comfort and homemade this weekend. Bread pudding for breakfast (indulgent I know) and gnocchi for dinner. On Sunday I run my first half marathon so for dinner I was hoping for something easy and comforting, sloppy joes maybe? On Monday we are having a fakesgiving! (Even though we're Canadian) It was too hard not to get caught up in the excitement, besides my husband and I didn't get to spend our thanksgiving together in October, so now will have to do. Can't wait for it to start!
Today I made Ruth Reichl's riff on carbonara with kale; butternut squash & shallot soup and have The Kitchn's coconut and green curry pork going in the slow cooker. The rest of the weekend will be dedicated to Thanksgiving prep! I do the "munchies" table for my family's appetizers: homemade cheezits, pickled veggies and I'm going to try my hand at paté this year! Plus Smitten's butternut squash galette and some other craziness for my partner's mom's house. Busy busy!!
I expect I'll be making a big avocado and fried egg sandwich for breakfast, some banana bread and then on Sunday these braised beans with leek, bacon and a bubbly cheesy lid.

Trying to figure out what baked goods I can make in the convection oven at work... probably going to try these raspberry blueberry muffins and some mushroom and spinach bread pudding. Possibly some sort of lemon poppy seed loaf? And of course, I have to make some brandied cranberry sauce in preparation for Thanksgiving...
Short ribs. They're cooking right now... can't wait to get home! :-)
On a bit of a health kick, so I'm mainly making things like tomato-lentil soup, chickpea and kale salad, roasted cauliflower, and a broccoli and tofu stir-fry. We're having an early Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday and I'm contributing cornbread w/honey butter and an arugula salad with pepitas and cotija.
These baked eggs with greens and spiced yogurt!
But I'm also having a vegans oven for brunch--any suggestions? And in the spirit of sharing tips for catering to those with special diets, here are my favorite tips and recipes for feeding the vegetarians at Thanksgiving. :)
We cooked a whole (smallish) turkey earlier this week, so the weekend will no doubt include some clever leftover renditions. Thanksgiving came a week early, I guess!
@emmycooks - I like any sort of tofu scramble or maybe hash browns with veggies (roasted peppers, leeks, tomato, etc.).
My (vegan) coworker is coming over tomorrow and we're going to make up a huge batch of Rebecca Katz's Miracle Mineral Broth and split it up. I'll have broth for months! For lunch I'm making grilled portobello tacos served with rice & Good Mother Stallard beans, and I'm surprising her with homemade coconut milk-mango ice cream.
Doing Thanksgiving dinner for 8 on Sunday because that is when everyone will be in town!!! Garlic Turkey, Southwestern Dressing with homemade tequila chorizo, chilies, pine nuts, etc. Of course mashed potatoes and gravy with a side of 5 onion casserole and Cranberry Salsa with cilantro, ginger, and peppers. Pecan Pie Tartlets and Pumpkin Chiffon Pie for dessert. Yum
Right, a tofu scramble! Great idea. I also remembered how much I like the lemon-blueberry pancakes from Veganomicon. Thanks!
Just pulled 6 chocolate chess pies out of the oven (for a fundraiser, not for me, I swear!)
Then something with a small pork butt. And using up some squash & greens to make room in my fridge.... getting our turkeys on Sunday, so I'll make gravy ahead of time with the wings. Yummmy..... gravy :)
David Lebovitz recipe for blondies x 4 for the band bake sale tomorrow!
I'm making Lentil Minestrone from Deborah Madison's Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone. And a granny smith apple something! Maybe a rustic apple tart or galette...also from her book! I love her!!! Have a great weekend everyone :)
Home alone this weekend as dh is traveling. Cleaning out the fridge for Thanksgiving so my meals will be a surprise even to me. Depends on what I find in there, lol. (kale + eggs for breakfast = yum) Accepted a last minute invite yesterday from another empty nester whose kids also can't make it home this year, so my Thanksgiving menu for two was scrapped. Now I'm cookin a dish 'r two for 8 which is actually easier for me. Gonna give a couple new-to-me recipes a test run this weekend.

Both fantastic and highly recommended!
...Also, love the sound of the braised beans with bacon one commenter recommends above. Yum.
I'm in a cookie-icing marathon, making 200+ for a friends' wedding. There are, at the bride's request, airplanes, airmail envelopes, initials, and lots of hearts. The catch: I'm in California, and the wedding is in New York, so I'm crossing all my appendages hoping the cookies make the flight intact.
Staying with family this weekend. I baked a loaf of anadama bread for them, woke up this morning and made anadama French toast (while my brother fried sausages) for the whole crowd, then my brother made soup while I made beer bread</em> muffins for lunch.
My home kitchen is too small for two people, so it's a treat to cook alongside someone!
I love egg and avocado! Have you tried avocado and egg salad? Yum!
I'm making corn gnocchi with pesto tonight! I could eat gnocchi every day !
Made breakfast tacos this morning with scrambled eggs, bacon and tomatillo salsa. Tonight I'm making white chicken chili! Very excited about that.
Lots of cooking this weekend - I'm making a big green salad and the Kitchn's recipe for pork meatballs in lemon-thyme sauce for dinner tonight, and decided that since I was buying ground pork anyway, I'd buy enough to make some dumplings to freeze as well. I'm planning on pork and napa cabbage dumplings, gyoza with pork and shrimp, and some shrimp wontons for good measure. Tomorrow I'm making a red lentil stew with collard greens.
There's a co-op board meeting/potluck tomorrow and I'll be bringing a sweet and a savory galette. I am going to an orphan's thanksgiving on thursday and I have been persuaded to do something with green beans, hopefully not lame.
wow!! i love mashed potatoes...i always have this as my side dish..i want to try it using your recipe...looks yummy!
I made eggs and pancakes for breakfast today. I am making a butternut squash risotto with bacon and brown butter with a bistro salad for dinner. I might make some piped Italian shortbread cookies for dessert.
Nothing much going on in the kitchen this weekend, with the advent of cooking Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday and Thursday. It's just the two of us. :)
Today, grilled steaks as a late lunch for some friends, with roasted garam-masala-spiced cauliflower and carrots, and some very buttery mash. And then a long time lingering and chatting over coffee. Perfect after a frosty ride through the park!
Had a long weekend at home and tackled Raymond Blanc's Boeuf Bourgignon (http://www.raymondblanc.com/Portals/14/docs/TVHF%20Boeuf%20Bourguignon.pdf). It was amazing.
made naan breakfast pizza this weekend - naan bread baked with homemade sauce, lots of cheese and an egg on top. http://abcdsofcooking.blogspot.com/2012/11/naan-breakfast-pizza.html
Its monday so its a little late. I made some meatballs and sauce to eat later in the week and a slow cooker black bean soup. I also did my pumpkin puree, butternut puree, turkey stock, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin muffins. I am exhausted!
