Straw Mat from The ...

Had to laugh: "extra-hot"! Clearly not written from the Bay Area, since I am wearing a sweater, and had to use my umbrella this morning!
Ditto in Seattle, LeapKate!! My plans this weekend are to avoid the rain and make some soup, since it is not even looking to hit 70 this weekend...
The East Coasters are experiencing Northern California's heat wave last weekend where we hit highs of 106 on Saturday. A few things on my cooking radar this weekend: kale salad with the miso tahini dressing posted here yesterday, banana bread tomorrow and sweet and spicy skewered prawns on Sunday. Looking forward to eating and making some good food.
I am delighted/ashamed, yes, both, to say I just popped a load of Bisquick Sausage Balls in the oven. It's still 90+ plus here in Boston area, but I want to take them on a picnic this weekend (when the heat will have departed) so it's now or never. Plus I tarted them up with some Cabot's Extra Sharp and also fresh oregano!
I'm making a spinach, olive, and feta frittata tomorrow. it's not hot here in LA
We're doing a cookout with friends with ribeyes, cilantro lime slaw, mashed potatoes, and homemade strawberry frozen yogurt!
It's cooling down here for the weekend (to the 80s). Today I mixed a low-yeast batch of bread dough with olive oil and put it in the fridge to rise overnight; tomorrow, I'll make it into pita bread and we'll have it for dinner with (store-bought) falafel, tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded carrots, olives, and plenty of cilantro (left over from another dinner). I also oven-cooked a batch of white beans (to make hummus) and made almond granola, too, since the oven was on at 275F anyhow.
Sunday, I'll make peanut noodles loaded with vegetables and chill them overnight. We'll have that Monday night for dinner, topped with sesame-crusted fried sweet potatoes and tofu.
This weekend I am making a chocolate crunch cake.
I made some chocolate peanut butter balls last night to hide in the freezer and munch on. Tonight will be meatball subs with baby leaf salad and tomorrow will be moroccan crusted fish with sweet potato and ginger mash. Yum!
Dinner tonight will be beef satay (done on the bbq) with coconut brown rice and stir-fried bean sprouts. For tomorrow, I think I'll make some whole-wheat lemon scones - perhaps with a handful of dried cherries tossed in - and a Nicoise salad for dinner.
Something with strawberries, though i'm still trying to decide between jam and a pie. Also, it's not warm in Seattle, and I have been walking around with a down vest and fleece hoodie. Last night to beat the cold it was pasta with garden spinach, cream sauce, and leftover shredded grilled trout
We had bacon and eggs for breakfast; lunch will be leftover Asian Chicken Salad. We're going to a BBQ this evening, and our contribution will be a light blueberry cheesecake made with homemade Greek yogurt. Not sure about tomorrow; we've got some leftover shredded beef, so I might make some whole wheat rolls to put that on with some cheese. My honey will be out on his bike most of the day, so he'll need something substantial when he gets back.
i had some muffin mania going on - whipped up two batches of Blueberry Oatmeal Cornbread Muffins:

I was craving chocolate cake for several days with no relief, so I gave in and made a multi-layer chocolate cake with melted chocolate & nutella frosting, it hit the spot. Then I spied a dish on a local menu that sounded intriguing so I decided to try it at home, roasted carrot honey hummus, first attempt was really scrumptious.........
We spent all day yesterday birthday-partying, and realized at the end of the day, feeling super hungry and a little bit awful, that we had mostly just eaten fruit and birthday cake and choclate. So this morning I made a serious brunch for the family-- poached eggs, Hollandaise sauce and bacon over a pile of greens. Feeling much better-- the healing power of food! (Especially breakfast!) I shared the recipe here:

Nothing crazy this weekend. My husbands friend visited last night bearing fresh corn from his dads farm, so we ate that with a pasta salad made with a balsamic butter sauce and fresh tomatoes, plus prosciutto and goat cheese stuffed chicken.
Tonight i made an easy beef and bok choy stir fry over rice noodles.
Did LOTS of grilling, and easy beach foods this weekend. I did make some crepes too though, love the nutella and banana ones!
