It's Friday evening, and we're pondering something spicy, something tangy, maybe something with lemongrass. The weather is turning just a shade cooler, and some stir-fried noodles would be just the thing. What about you? What's cooking in your kitchen? Have you been intrigued by any of the Asian-inspired recipes from the past week? Inspire us! Tell us what's cooking in your kitchen this weekend. Happy weekend, and happy cooking!

Though it's summer, it's all cold and rainy here today. I have some delicious red lentil, coconut milk and carrot soup simmering in my crock pot right now, for tomorrow:

I'd planned out this week's meals before noticing that the Kitchn was highlighting Asian cuisines this week, but coincidentally I made vegetable dumplings and tried out stir-fried lettuce tonight, and I'm planning another stir-fry dish with chicken thighs tomorrow. And it's cooled down enough here in Toronto that I'm tempted to take some fruit and bake with it, instead of eating it out of hand! Peach kuchen, maybe...
all i want are dan dan noodles. with extra ground pork and a little lighter on the chili oil. and dumplings. veggie. steamed. or pork. or shrimp. sigh ...
We're getting ready to go away for a week, so we're in use-up-the-contents-of-the-fridge mode, which includes buttermilk pancakes, a frittata, and lots of salad - poor us! But I'm also planning a low-key pre-birthday dinner (since the actual birthday will occur when we're away) of farmer's market tomato salad, homemade pasta with arugula-walnut pesto, and buttermilk bacon pralines from Screen Doors and Sweet Tea. We'll try to keep it a little more austere than usual, in preparation for several days of vacation eating... ;)
We've gotten lots of potatoes, shallots, and garlic from the CSA. I roasted them, along with some mushrooms, and combined them with red beans cooked in a delicious broth of red wine, tamari and sage. Very savory and meaty and delicious. We ate it over millet. I've got leftovers, so tonight it's millet croquettes. I'll let you know how it goes!
Scallion pancakes and mugi-cha for lunch. A corn-potato chowder for dinner.
So far:
Vegan cornmeal-blueberry pancakes for breakfast. (Wild Maine blueberries are in season!!!)
A pot of sweet iced tea with raspberry zinger teabags in it too, cooling on the counter.
I've come to The Kitchn today to hunt for a recipe for jalapeno jelly, because when I bought those blueberries, I foolishly pick up a pint box of jalapenos, which I will not possibly be able to eat before they go bad.
Friday night pizza! We went for Arugula Pesto this time.

Happy pre-birthday, sinnela! That nut pesto sounds delicious.
Last night, everyone in my visiting family (including the kids) pitched in for a big lobster dinner: steamed lobsters, corn on the cob, Caesar salad, garlic bread, and my Depression-era wacky cake with raspberry jam filling. Such a luscious, messy meal!
Tonight I'm making summer squash fritters, trying to keep up with the bounty that my garden-owning friends are sending my way. (Dear friends: I will take ALL THE ZUCCHINI AND SUMMER SQUASH you send my way.) We'll probably have some cheesy garlic bread and either kale or spinach salad.
CLAIREOOTO, would love that millet croquettes recipe.
Picked up HUGE striped zucchini at the farmer's market today so will make "zoodles" tonight sautéed with butter and garlic. (I use a julienne peeler) Will toss in some chopped yellow tomatoes and fresh basil, too.
Will also roast chicken quarters I picked up at the market, with some fresh herbs & butter tucked under the skin.
Nice! Anything that looks that pretty and green will be a great addition to any dinner. :)
Just got 'How to cook gluten free' in the mail this week, which I heard about on the kitchn of course. About to get started on a gluten free plum cobbler - picked up too many plums at the farmers market! Dinner with family tonight but I'll be putting together a few things for lunches this week later on - a soba noodle salad, green salad, and baking my first loaf of gluten free bread. Trying to get used to this whole gluten free thing!
Had a lot of red lentils so I made ezogelin soup which is a Turkish soup made out of bulgur, lentils, mint, and tomato paste. So hearty and yet light and summery at the same time!
Went camping this weekend. I pre-prepared a hobo pack of warm root vegetable salad with citrus dressing (calabaza squash/onion/carrot/sweet potato/parsnip/beets) at home and cooked it over the fire.Tossed some corn into the lake (husks on) and grilled it over the fire. Also grilled pineapple slices dredged in cinnamon and brown sugar. Breakfast was plain instant hemp oatmeal with goji berries, mulberries, smashed cocoa beans and flax seed thrown in. Happy and delicious times.
