What are you cooking this weekend? Do you have plans for a lazy Saturday morning with sunshine, hot coffee, and the paper? There are plenty of good ideas from the past week for weekend eating, cooking, and general kitchen loveliness. In fact, we're hoping you'll do one thing to beautify your kitchen this weekend, and then send us some evidence. Meanwhile, how about a margarita?
• You have one more weekend to finish up Cure Assignment #3: Clean, restock, and beautify. Next week we move on to cooking, so make sure your kitchen is all ready!
• A tip for washing lettuce. Are you eating any spring salads this weekend? Or maybe fresh and snappy asparagus? Or radishes?
• Food facts of the week: why you shouldn't eat cold cheese, why bread goes stale, and all about vanilla powder.
• How's the garden? Even if you have a tiny space you can grow edible nasturtium flowers, or take inspiration from any one of these gardens for small spaces.
• Swine flu... errr, A H1N1... shouldn't stop you from eating pork. But of course it's always a good idea to look for responsibly-raised pork and to cook it well.
• A hot pink cake, with even pinker frosting!
• A great template for quick weekend meals.
• Great drinks for the weekend: homemade kombucha, margaritas, and crisp spring wines.
• Weekend sweet treats: tiny chocolate cookies with toffee bits, gooey graham cracker bars, and cream cheese "tarts".
• Good gear for picnics and hauling lunch to work: Corningware and leak-proof containers.
• Looking for a Microplane?
Have a lovely weekend, and don't forget to drop back in on Saturday and Sunday for a Cure Download and Dana's Weekend Meditation.

I just would like to say that the margarita post made me want one very badly. I've never made homemade ones though, and I'm going to save that endeavor for cinco de mayo.
I'm thinking about making some bread this weekend. Some really good, need-to-knead, long rising bread. Also, I may experiment with whoopie pie flavors...perhaps something more spring-y than chocolate or pumpkin...
I have some beautiful yellow tomatos that I have no idea what to do with. Any suggestions?
This weekend I will be cooked FOR at a lovely Palm Springs boutique hotel...
They have THE best food too
I'm part of a hosting group for an engagement party tonight. Southern Church Picnic style (but with drinks!). I made my grandma's pound cake last night, making ham biscuits, butter beans & corn, sweet tea & my hubby's making potato salad & banana pudding. Yummy! I look forward to trying the fried chicken that someone else is making....
Those flowers are gorgeous...
My husband and I are starting our first batch of home-brew beer tonight! Wish us luck...
I also am planning to make a bunch of bread/pizza dough this weekend to stock the freezer. May is going to be a busy month for me, and I know I'm going to be lazy when I get home, so I want to be prepared.
I will probably make a quiche as well. And I've been craving cake with cream cheese icing...
TallSarah, I've never eaten Southern Food and your picnic menu sounds to die for!
Friday is the start of my weekend as I work Sundays. Yesterday we made turkey burgers with peper jack in a pita with a side of sweet potato fries and sauted spinach with garlic. This monrning I made wonderful ricotta cheese pancakes with orange zest and a side of feta/spinach chicken sausage & coffee. Will likely make a fish dish tonight. Stocked the fridge and cupboard yesterday with our Trader Joes staples, will get flowers and produce at the farmers market tomorrow (first day cherries are back!!!). Lovin' my new microhood-convection combo. It's amazing what getting the microwave off the counter does - my kitchen is so much roomier and modern. That old hood was sooo icky and outdated. Worth every penny.
First asparagus risotto of the season.
Great weekend so far. Doing the Meatless in May pledge via ChelseaGreen.com, this weekend is also the Denver Green Festival.
Last night had vegan soul food at a May Day Grub Party and went to see a panel of Eco-Chefs, Food Justice, and community activists.
Today saw Bryant Terry, Grub and Vegan Soul Food, present at the festival, talked to Afya Ibomu, Vegan Guide to the Galaxy, ate kind food.
Tomorrow, plan yummy food for the week. Peruse recipes from cookbooks I bought in the last two days.
TallSarah, will you be my friend? Pretty please? :D
We held a big dinner party last night to celebrate (1) my birthday, (2) one friend earning her Bachelors degree and (3) another friend earning her Masters degree. I made Swedish meatballs, boiled new potatoes, sauteed green beans, and yeast rolls that were so delicious that I received numerous marriage proposals. I also made a strawberry cake like what was mentioned here earlier this week - lovely pink cake with no artificial colors.
Well, I went to the Farmer's Market and bought waaaay too much fresh produce. So far I've made daikon, turnip, turnip green, okra, and asparagus pickles. I also made a big batch of spaghetti sauce, which I portioned off and froze, and 2 premade chicken potpies which I also froze.
Tomorrow I'm making strawberry jam.
I made omelettes with olive tapenade, feta, and andouille sausage; and whole wheat pasta shells with broccolini and chicken italian sausage, with a flavor base of olive oil, garlic, anchovies, dry vermouth, and chili-garlic sauce.
