My weekend plans involve tomatoes, a fresh ball of mozzarella, and possibly some bread. But bread is optional, in this scenario. What about you? What are you eating and drinking? Take a peek at few posts from the past week and tell us: What's cooking this weekend in your kitchen?
• How do you run your potlucks? Strict sign-ups? Come with what you can? Our readers pitched themselves a lively discussion!
• Bacon, lettuce, tomato. BLT season is here.
• Dip fried food in salt instead of sauce — just try it!
• A short list of delights and inspirations.
• A birthday cake inspired by Willy Wonka.
• Sleek, small, sexy New York City kitchen.
• Take heart. Even famous food bloggers have messy kitchens.
• Is a fruit and vegetable juicer right for you?
• Build your own seltzer maker — what a fun project.
• Fruits and vegetables not as nutritious as they were 60 years ago.
• Chocolate for breakfast — yes or no?
Happy weekend, and happy cooking!

Having sourdough bread with bunching onion-ed cream cheese (the onions were the only thing to survive deer and woodchucks in my garden), salt-cured tomatoes, and salted cucumbers. Soooooo gooooood....
Also made a stone fruit compote with sweetened ricotta cream.
Tomorrow is my first attempt at plum cake, since I have a large bag of Italian plums to use up before they go bad.
The wife purchased a large bag of lemons. Lemonade!
That tomato looks amazing! I can almost taste it through the computer screen. I'm sending the husband for take out:)
So much! We're throwing a party this weekend! We sent out invitations for a "champagne jam," with is just our excuse for an all-day open-house brunch with a mimosa bar.
I'm serving:
- three quiches, served chilled: mushroom and Swiss; spinach, caramelized onion, and Parmesan; broccoli and cheddar
- a cold frittata with potato, red onion, and scallions (dairy-free)
- biscuits and a platter of spreads and fixings, including bacon jam, tomato jam with smoked paprika, onion-garlic jam, yogurt cheese, watercress, red onion
- red potato salad with chives and champagne vinaigrette
- cranberry-orange scones, orange butter, strawberry-champagne jam, citrus-champagne marmalade
- fresh fruit (nothing fancy, just grapes and pineapples)
- cranberry-apple coffee cake (vegan)
- artichoke dip with basil (vegan), crudites, crackers
This is also sorta a belated-birthday party for me, so I'm making two kinds of cake: pink champagne cupcakes with pink glaze; orange cake filled with marmalade and topped with ganache. I'm also considering the vegan jam thumbprints I saw here at The Kitchn, though that depends on how ambitious I'm feeling tomorrow --- I might be all cooked out by then!
Elsa, what time should I be there? That sounds freaking incredible.
I'm going to the Great Taste of the Midwest this weekend (a giant beer festival to end all beer festivals in Madison, WI) so not much cooking around here... That tomato and mozz looks simply heavenly, though!
-Whole Coho stuffed with fennel, lemon and onion grilled on the BBQ.
- zucchini/corn fritters
-homemade toasted coconut ice cream with grilled peaches
yum!
Just made zucchini bread and thinking about a peach pie....maybe something involving some cherry tomatoes since I suddenly have a craving after looking at that picture....
To honor Jeniffer Perillo's husband Mike I am making the Peanut Butter Cream Pie tonight with my husband and son.
This weekend is shaping up to be delicious. Working on developing few new recipes. Raspberry chocolate truffle ice cream, grilled ribeyes with gorgonzola rosemary butter and good ol' pepperoni pizza. But if I could get a hold of red tomatoes like yours, I might cancel everything and just make BLTs all weekend.
I have a beautiful tomato waiting for some attention also! I think I'll slice, drizzle with olive oil, roast with some fresh bread crumbs & parm on top...
@Elsa, yeah, that sounds like an awesome feast! I'll bring the vegan thumbprints in exchange for some of that quiche and a biscuit.
I've been inspired by all the burger posts and will makes black bean burgers for sure. The little one wants buckwheat pancakes, and I've got a ton of yellow squash will be served over cavatappi with a little cream and oregano. Plus I think some corn muffins with fresh corn.
And quiche. I'm inspired by Elsa. Some cold quiche lunches would be very nice this week.
Tomatoes, tomatoes, tomatoes. I'll be doing another batch of roasted tomato sauce for the freezer and Tomatoes Provencal with dinner.
Tomatoes on the brain for me too. Pizza tonight with basil, slow roasted tomatoes and whatever summer fare we wish to throw on it. Tomorrow I'll be slow roasting them for freezer duty after my farmers market haul tomorrow and then for dinner, a beautiful bodega bay king salmon.
Canning today! I've been using up cucumbers and pinot noir peppers from the garden to make the yummiest relish. I'll be spooning it on crackers with tuna for lunches throughout the year. Also planning to use up farmer's market peaches to make a preserve with my lemon thyme while I'm at it.
I'm making tapas tonight. All vegetarian, I'll make patatas bravas, zucchini wrapped around ricotta and pepper (usually eggplant is used, but boy do I have zucchini), sauteed mushrooms, white beans, cheese. mm.
Heirloom tomatoes and ham sandwich for lunch, and whole wheat pasta with edamame pesto (based on The Kitchn recipe) for dinner.
I made truffle cream chicken last night, with oven-roasted cherry tomatoes and potato mash. It's my first time using (or even eating!) truffle, and it turned out AMAZING.
Zucchini everything. My neighbor tosses the zucchini from her CSA into my CSA box - is this war? No, its celebration time at my house.
That and grilling - still time to win the challenge at Cookbooker - easy peasy. I grilled a steak recipe from Simply Recipes - yum!
Wow, these are some delicious-sounding menus. Ours is simple--adult snacks for our toddler's late afternoon birthday party:
figs with pecorino romano
toasted hazelnuts with thyme and fleur de sel
strawberries
chocolate truffle cake
lots of cava!
Made shredded beef enchiladas, guacamole and cabbage salad for dinner last night. Bacon, egg, hash browns, and toast for brunch today, then chocolate mousse for dessert--it's my birthday. ;) Going out for Greek food for dinner tonight.
yup. that photo pretty much covers it.
I roasted a chicken this morning. Now I have a big pot of chili on the stove. I'm trying not to bake anymore for the next few weeks. I've already put on a few pounds after all the desserts I've made (and eaten).
