I haven't figured out what's cooking tomorrow or Sunday, but right now I have two loaves of bread and a pan of sticky cinnamon rolls rising in the kitchen. I'm looking forward to a warm cinnamon roll and a hot cup of tea for dinner on this chilly, rainy night.
Chicken parm with homemade bread crumbs and banana muffins on Saturday. Traditional Jewish dinner on Sunday with friends.
Moroccan spiced lamb kebabs, with pearl cous cous and minted carrots on Saturday and I'm still trying to figure out Sunday... ideas?
Some fennel frond pesto I made and froze earlier in the week with gnocchi and olive oil toasted bread crumbs for tonight. Tomorrow, I'm gonna see what fresh fish looks good at the market and go from there. Sunday I'm going to make a potato salad with herbed vinaigrette and spring peas.
Mmm ... My tummy is rumbling and I can't wait for my guy to get home so I can throw this pasta in the water!
Honey and lemon roasted chicken with veg that I find at the Farmer's market tomorrow morning, Berries with yogurt and warm honey lemon curd, and a pea shoot salad.
Sweets, sweets, and more sweets! Buckeye balls, cookies, chocolate-mint bars: all in preparation for next weekend's graduation party! But I'm also planning and shopping for the chicken salad, slow-cooked pulled pork, and salads. I should have definitely defrosted my upright freezer before I started all of this!
Oh, meanwhile I baked a pan of cinnamon rolls last night for my graduating son to take to the senior breakfast this morning. Sugar, anyone?
I just made the warm farro and roasted vegetables salad from this site (substituted pearl barley for the farro) for a pre-judgement day soiree tonight.
I'm currently cursing about the candied grapefruit recipe that I pulled from one of those magazines where they don't actually test the recipes. Maybe they'll get better as they dry.
Steelhead trout on the grill right now with some couscous salad with sun dried tomatoes, goat cheese and mint, and roasted cauliflower. Tomorrow is asparagus risotto and Sunday is some sole menuiere (sp?-too lazy to look it up). I have some rhubarb from last week's market that I will find something to do with-I am thinking scones.
We grilled 6 pizzas for a pizza party tonight. It's my bday this weekend so not much more cooking for me as I think we're going out to eat... maybe some recreational baking on Sunday.
Our co-op here (Crow Wing Co-op, Brainerd MN) just got in the first of the local asparagus so the first thing I did with it is bake a few of the spears into a quiche. http://flic.kr/p/9Km6NM
Pavlova ! I've never made meriange (sp?) so its time to change that. I'm going to use Delia Smith's recipe which suggests leaving it overnight in the slowly cooling oven.
last night was a friend's birthday, so I made lemon meringue cupcakes and hazelnut chocolate ganache...tonight is a progressive dinner with friends, for which I was assigned dessert, so it'll be strawberry rhubarb crisp and leftover lemon meringue cake. oh, and bread pizza for lunch--half a loaf of toasted bread, tomato sauce, cheese and toppings. yum!
oh, and @BrittanyKate--we made it!! ;-)
Lots of ice cream for end-of-school parties. So far: Mint Chocolate Cookie and David Lebovitz's Salted Butter Caramel. Also, Rachel Ray just cooked up a batch of fried green beans on Food Network, and those might find their way into my kitchen later today...
@heatherjflynn, sounds fabulous! I'll be over in time for dinner. :-)
@creativevoyage, I hope your pavlova turn out wonderfully! I've never made them before, but they really are tasty.
Thinking I might do sauteed asparagus and leeks with fontina on toast tonight, and veggie burgers tomorrow. Don't have much time for cooking--I'm supposed to be finishing a project for school!
I made a rosemary tangerine cake today! Its BEYOND... someone get me elastic pants!
@rosebud....ummm can I come over!? yum!
Oh man...you all have got some Serious desserts working this weekend. Impressive.
I just tried making enchiladas in the Crockpot and was delighted that they worked! I did NOT put cheese between the layers of enchilada as I assumed this would result in a glued-together Crockpot-shaped mega-lada. Just used salsa, and popped them in the micro with shredded cheese on top before serving. Did someone say "untested recipes?"
@cmcinnyc - Crockpot-shaped mega-lada made me laugh aloud. But I want one!
Brown rice and spicy marinated turkey steaks on Friday night, with strawberry parfait for dessert and pancakes with bananas foster for brunch on Saturday. I think tonight will be beef and broccoli in oyster sauce over brown rice, and a batch of hummus for next week.
Rhubarb cake I think today. Tweaking an old church lady recipe as it's good, but not quite right as written. Maybe something warm for lunch. Like soup. And for dinner? Something salad-y I think. I need more vegetables!
We're moving next weekend, so minimal cooking here this weekend--some leftover risotto with spinach last night, takeout for lunch today. Hoping to use up most of our food in the fridge/freezer before Friday night!
I recreated Wegmans Green Glory juice - delicious and healthy to counteract all the on-the-go eating during the week.
Also, Smitten Kitchen's ribboned asparagus salad with lemon: http://smittenkitchen.com/2011/05/ribboned-asparagus-salad-with-lemon/
Made a few Smitten Kitchen recipes to eat for lunch this week: silky cauliflower soup, homemade caesar dressing and marinated eggplant with mint and capers.
Making an Indian feast this evening, in honor of the honey who cycled 300k yesterday (the ride was actually supposed to be 400k, but he had had enough about 2:00 a.m., and I took the Sag Wagon out to the middle of nowhere to get him; we didn't get to bed until about 5:00 this morning): ground meat kebabs on bread with veg (cheating and using Greek pitas from the store), onion fritters, and pea pillau. Made a lovely light rhubarb cheesecake yesterday and we had that for tea today. The basil in my window box is doing great, so I'm thinking of making a pizza with pesto and veg tomorrow.
