• I went to Housewares 2011, and here's what I found: A new awesome zester, great glass storageware, a hot pink KitchenAid mixer, cookware with folding handles, modern black clay bakeware, smart silicone lids, and lovely storage jars. Oh, and bakeware for toaster ovens, funny products from FRED, and a uniquely beautiful teapot.

the photo on the right is stunning.
I am planning to bake this weekend: on the list are hamentashen with probably apricot jam and hand pies with apples and dulce de leche using one of the two store bought pie crusts I used to make this spinach & bacon tart.
Tonight we'll be eating out (sushi!) and tomorrow I'll be in San Francisco and visiting, amongst other places, the Ferry Building Marketplace where I know I'll get inspired to cook something delicious once we get home. Sunday will be more leisurely with the morning dedicated to buttermilk pancakes, a farmers market run and then for dinner, cooking up the Bodega Bay salmon fthat I've already ordered from my fishmonger locatd there.
Am I missing the recipe for the drink in the header photo? Maybe I'm crazy =) Or is it just something simple like champagne with a slice of blood orange?
I have a SEVEN A.M. party to attend tomorrow, and I'm bringing Smitten Kitchen's Irish CarBomb Cupcakes, as well as some banana bread. The idea is to eat breakfast and have a few before heading out to watch them dye the Chicago River a stranger shade of green.
I am going to try my hand at a lower fat, lower calorie version of Scotch Eggs. Have been craving them for weeks!
I'm hosting a pi(e) party this weekend in honor of 3/14 on Monday, so I will be making vegetarian chicken pot shepherd's pie (my own made up mix - has a mashed potato topping instead of crust) and chocolate tofu pudding pie. I can't wait to see what others bring to share!
It's finals week around here, so eating is a luxury. Most likely there will be ice cream for dinner and lots of coffee. Looking forward to actually cooking over Spring Break.
A glass of grappa and some Chinese takeout. Yummm! The weekend is here...
Does anyone have any suggestions about what to cook when you have a neck/backache?? Ouch.
I just made a very springy tortellini/arugula/radish/goat cheese salad that hit the spot. Planning on trying my hand at the beer & pretzel marshmallows. On tap for tomorrow: healthy(ish) twice-baked potato skins with broccoli and cheddar. Sunday: zucchini-wrapped lamb kofta with spicy tomato sauce.
I have no ideas for what to cook yet.... but I'm reveling in my much-debated decision to buy a 4 qt oval LC dutch oven at TJ Maxx today. I had been looking at other brands (I have a Martha and love it, but it's gigantic!), but the LC was calling my name and I figure my grandkids will be cooking with it in 100 years.
Tomorrow night I'm making the fat-free vegan's tofu jambalaya and a WW's king cake along with some bean dip and tortilla chips for a get together. Tonight I went to a dinner party and my friend made potato saag, seasoned rice, cucumber/tomato raita and some yummy lentil dish. I am now entering the Indian phase of my life. YUM!
I might try making that Meyer lemon pie featured on the site in honor of pi day. I've got a bag of the lemons.
I didn't get around to French Onion soup last weekend, so it's still on my list.
But all I really want to do is SLEEP. I make too many ambitious cooking plans on the weekend!
I'm about to make more of these cuban cheese empanadas. Made them last night and now i must have MORE! I mixed up a couple of recipes and did a little post on it here. so gooooood.... http://bit.ly/e5wKLp The Meyer Lemon pie above sounds yum yum too!
These Sticky Lemon Rolls with Lemon Cream Cheese Glaze (http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/breakfast/recipe-sticky-lemon-rolls-with-lemon-cream-cheese-glaze-111307?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+apartmenttherapy%2Fthekitchn+%28The+Kitchn%29) are in the fridge to be cooked tomorrow for my Grampa's birthday (he LOVES lemon). Last night the bf and I tried our hand at homemade tortillas from The Bread Bible and they turned out pretty darn well!
First solo attempt at pancakes. Results - ugly but of course they tasted alright (thank you Bob's Red Mill mix, cherries, and real maple syrup). Lessons learned for proper mixing and pouring (less is more, go slow!).
Want to make the lemon/fennel roasted chicken thighs that was posted here a few weeks ago. Thighs are thawing as we speak, hopefully ready by this evening.
Homemade pizza, hot cross buns, strawberry tart, roast chicken and Jamie's Quick Potato Dauphinoise were all all the menu this weekend.
