Working on the perfect apple pie with a leaf lard crust. What a wonderful thing to "practice."
Making Rigatoni w/Creamy Mushroom Sauce (a Giada recipe) for dinner tonight. Not sure about the rest of the weekend.

Happy Hour starts NOW!

Milk Liqueur is aging in the cabinet and I'm making Playdough tomorrow with my daughter. Does that count? (+ veggie potstickers for the Super Bowl)
I've got a great breakfast planned for tomorrow morning, including an attempt at homemade English muffins. Planning to top 'em with smoked salmon, poached eggs, and a roasted red pepper sauce... we'll see how that goes!
Coconut curried lentils, yum!

Friday: Oxtail stew, Sharon's bread (my cousin's fabulous bread recipe),
Saturday: blueberry coffee cake & breakfast casserole,
Sunday Coffee: Gramma Bird's Company Cake with butter cream frosting, gingersnaps, lemon bars.
tea sandwiches for a girlfriend tea on Sunday==and I'm cutting them out with a heart shaped cutter....but I cannot decide on fillings!
Tonight: cauliflower and chicken sausage casserole plus a blueberry crisp (using up a surplus of berries that I picked and froze last summer).
Breakfast tomorrow: cranberry-orange-walnut waffles.
Sunday: finally getting around to Chickpea Casserole with Lemon, Herbs & Shallots from Not Your Mother's Casseroles (which I am totally loving!).
Citrus-Vanilla Milk Liqueur is doing its thing and will be ready to be strained and enjoyed next weekend.
I better get my crockpot broth going--butternut squash risotto tonight. I've got blood oranges and cherries (fresh, not maraschino), and I think I'll have to try making an old-fashioned tonight.
I'm going to have a use-up weekend - Got apples that need using, pulled beef and needs barbecuing or soup-making, and swiss chard that needs something done to it.
Maybe I'll try making clementine curd, too... I love citrus in the wintertime.
KAF recipe whole wheat bread, with walnuts and sunflower seeds, rising now. Using up leftover chicken with onions, celery, carrots, peas, mushrooms in a "pot pie" covered with corn bread (thin layer). Looks like veggie soup weather so that'll be made on Sunday. Nothing fancy - but all nice for our cold weather (heh heh cold for here - mid 30's).
Making pizza tomorrow; tonight, we're supposed to have dinner guests, but surprise surprise, we're getting more winter weather instead. So we'll be tying on our boots and getting the heck out of here for dinner--we've spent lots and lots of time in this house from many snow days (I teach, he works for the town) and they're starting to close in a bit on us.
Last night was homemade pizza and dirty martinis (thank you hubby for both) while I contributed the caesar salad using a new recipe from my latest Cooks Illustrated. This morning was cottage cheese pancakes made with white whole wheat flour, currants and walnuts and tonight's dinner will be mahogany short ribs courtesy of the WaPost (they are braised in a delicious combination of prune juice and terriyaki sauce). Tomorrow we'll be attending a Super Bowl party at a friend's house and we'll be contributing a baked artichoke and parmesan dip.
Cooking already for the big game & this is the first time I'm going completely gluten free!
Starters:
3 Dips - Pimento cheese, tzatziki and hummus w/veggies, rice crackers & popcorn chips.
Also various pickles I made over the summer
then for the main - Italian sausage and baked beans
And a gluten free Banana pudding for dessert!
What's up homemade pizza makers... me too! Local market had asparagus on sale (99 cents a pound!) so tonight I sliced it thin & put it on top with a little mozzarella & slivered garlic. I also cracked a couple eggs right on top & when it came out of the oven, it also got a generous sprinkling of arugula dressed with lemon & olive oil & red pepper flakes. Yum! It was like spring on a plate... I must be yearning for warmer weather.
Tomorrow for SB we'll be making turkey & 3 bean chili with cornbread.
Slow roasted olives, roasted vegetable chicken noodle and barley soup, buttermilk whole wheat chocolate loaf cake, date, currant, prune whole wheat bread. Whew!
Tonight's dinner was Seared Pork Tenderloin with Cocoa Spice Rub:

And then tomorrow for a friend's Super Bowl party I will be bringing two nut mixes:

and

I actually made this one today- pretty tasty, but I recommend using about half of the salt.
I won't be cooking this weekend.. it's my first visit to Portland!! I'm considering finishing up culinary school up here! I'm exploring the city til Tuesday and would loooove any and all yummy dining suggestions. Especially breakfast... Thanks have a great weekend!
I'm cooking up some of the stuff from Tuesday's CSA box, plus trying to empty the freezer before we get our 1/4 of a beef later in the week. So Friday I made the stuffed shells recipe from here with the CSA spinach. Then Saturday was Shepherd's Pie and Shaker Squash Bread (love the Shepherd's Pie for using up odds and ends--this one included some freezer-burned green beans and baby bok choy). Today I'm trying pear butter in the Crock-Pot. And maybe some scones with the blueberries I need to use up?
I made some pumpkin walnut bread with leftover pureed pumpkin in the freezer from the fall.
With brunch out one day and lunch out the next, I needed something easy and healthy for dinner. But it also had to be fun! I made a salad with persimmons, avocado and pistachios on a bed of salad greens. It was a great combination of flavors, textures and colors.
Saturday night we got 3 inches of snow - we stayed in and made our first-ever pot of french onion soup (veg) with a small loaf of french bread. We melted yummy fontina on the slices and then dunked... BEYOND yummy.
