For Canadian Thanksgiving I'm going to make some pumpkin soup but I'm thinking of giving it a curry/coconut milk twist. What do you think? Can't wait to see what you come up with for Pasta Week!
So far I know I want to BAKE. Perfect baking weather! And Molly from Orangette posted an awesome looking peanut butter cookie recipe today, and CakeSpy linked to a no-bake samoas recipe that I want to try (even though it's no-bake), so I feel like it is perfect timing.
Fresh pumpkin doughnuts with buttermilk glaze! Can't wait!
Thanksgiving for me! There is a turkey defrosting in the bathtub as I type.
Roasted carrots and parsnips. And ham and bean soup.
It's a big weekend to stock up. I know I'll make a big batch of tomato sauce, a butternut squash soup, risotto, and carrot cake. From there? Not sure. A red lentil soup might get on the list.
seriously considering trying the Julia child/Dorie Greenspan croissant recipe. If I can only manage my time well enough, I'll be able to do it.
We're still getting summer vegetables from our CSA, but I'm in the mood for fall dishes now that the weather is cooling down a bit. Solution: lasagna with roasted eggplant and zucchini from Cook's Illustrated's "Cover and Bake" cookbook. I think I'll make Greek Salad and some Split Pea Soup on Sunday.
Given that we'll have a freakishly warm weekend here in New England I am not feeling like making the stews & such that I'd like to. I also would like to get out the fall/winter clothes during this long weekend, but at 86 deg I don't think I can bear handling wool. Up side--not turning on the heat yet.
Charlotte-I'm in New England, too. Not doing too much due to the really warm temps this weekend. Bring back the cooler weather!
Since it is so warm this weekend, the hubs and I are going for a sail on a schooner in Salem, MA today, so, no cooking for me. Possibly a pumpkin walnut cake from the Miette cookbook tomorrow, along with a pot of chili made in the slow cooker. The two of those shouldn't heat up the kitchen TOO much.
Pork stew with green chiles, onions, tomatillos, garlic and cumin.
Those zucchini chips from the Delicious Links look like a good appetizer for a risotto dinner. That goes on the list.
It's warmer in NY, too, but nowhere near 86!
It's unusually warm around Toronto too - today's high is supposed to be 26C! - so it's definitely not a good time for stew, but I'm heading out for some apple picking today, and apple butter is definitely going to be made this weekend. I'm also hoping to do a Dutch apple pie for Thanksgiving on Monday, but I'll see how my mother-in-law feels about that first. I'm already planning to make a sweet potato and apple saute, seared green beans, and a spinach salad with dried cranberries and goat cheese for our Thanksgiving dinner.
Tonight's dinner will be pasta with puttanesca sauce; tomorrow, a big salad and some good bread.
I just harvested two bushels of apples so for me it's caramel applesauce, apple pocket pies made with ground quinoa for a high protein punch (bake, pop in the freezer, then toast up for a quick breakfast), and I'd like to try my hand at making an apple curry that I had once (it's haunted me ever since).
My contribution to tomorrow's Thanksgiving potluck will be a hearty mushroom risotto! Tonight will be lighter: garden salad with sautéed shrimp.
Sounds like everyone's on he same fall kick as I am! Even though it's 80 out in NYC today I baked an apple spice cake with brown butter icing and made a whole wheat israeli couscous salad with apples, sweet potatoes, red onion, toasted pecans, blue cheese, and cider dressing.
Pumpkin Bread, Baked Potato Soup, and Apple Pie (after going apple picking in Western Massachusetts)
Definitely making food for Thanksgiving. I'm in charge of well...everything this year, from the turkey to the vanilla ice cream for the pumpkin pie. I can't wait!
Apple Dutch pancake, chicken braised in Riesling with caramelized shallots, couscous and artichoke tapenade
I've got Pioneer Woman's Italian Drip Beef slow cooking in the oven now, and later today I'll be baking a batch of brownies and making a big pot of soup to use up some leftover chicken and smoked sausage, and most importantly, the ridiculous amount of vegetables in my fridge that weren't used as planned last week because life was just crazy hectic. My fingers are crossed that it can all be salvaged.
We spent the whole weekend going to flea markets and garage sales, so tonight it's going out for burgers and fries at our favorite Irish pub.
But tomorrow or Tuesday (our "weekend" is technically Monday & Tuesday) I'll be making roast pork with mustard vinaigrette green beans and maybe some sweet or white potatoes. And bread pudding at some point.
My husband picked up a variety of flavored brats from the meat market--chili, jalapeno, beer and cheddar, horseradish and apple. Apple was the new one and it was really tasty.
Tomorrow I'm making chicken and milk.
I made onion jam. It was heavenly on my steak and eggs for brekky yesterday.
