Some of us want/need complete silence in the kitchen when we cook, while others use this time to get caught up on all those cooking shows queueing up on the iPod. And of course there's always music. Tell us what's streaming in your ears when you're in the kitchen, and leave us the details in the comments.

I listen to my SO playing Mass Effect 1 or 2. Its violent and loud, but the story line is actually pretty interesting. And with all the rapid fire shots its almost white noise.
I listen to my favorite latin station: el zol! and sometimes even do a bit of dancing in between chopping and stirring :)
Little bit of all of the above, actually. Depends on my mood and which of my three roommates is at home. As long as there's noise, I'm good.
My kitchen companion is CBC Radio 1, something of a cross between NPR and BBC World (or BBC 4). Weeknight dinner preparation usually takes place during the show "As It Happens", an interview show that covers both significant news events and somewhat silly ones too.
The tv is nearby so during dinner time I listen/watch the news or MASH reruns.
When I spend lots of time in the kitchen, like on weekends, my music is playing on random, ranging from Nine Inch Nails to Dave Matthews Band.
it should read "KPFK or other talk radio"!!!
when my husband and I are in the kitchen together, we are usually catching up on the day, discussing, debating, etc :)
when I am cooking alone, I usually listen to Neko Case on my 'pod: http://www.flickr.com/photos/honeysweet-ness/4371700114/
My kitchen faces the tv, so I like to watch an episode of a favorite show while I'm working. I generally do that with all my household stuff.
Depending on the time and my mood, I listen to NPR or music.
In the morning, sometimes I listen to nothing - I'm still waking up and I like the quiet. If I'm alone in the house, usually I like to rock out to something I can sing along to.
the slumdog millionaire soundtrack, ALWAYS the slumdog millionaire soundtrack.
Either my ipod on "shuffle all songs," or Pandora on my Bollywood station.

A lot of musical soundtracks: Little Shop of Horrors, Grease 2 (I know, it's a taste level issue), Moulin Rouge, Jesus Christ Super Star.
Also Paul Simon's Graceland.
catching up on podcasts of This American Life, the Political Gabfest and the Moth....or loud danceable music.
I listen to radio stations on Pandora in hopes of finding new tunes to love. My husband and i have to take turns picking the stations!

I listen to music, but my husband likes to listen to NPR...this is actually what I am currently listening too

For me I almost always listen to The Avett Brothers, AA Bondy, The Felice Brothers, Ingrid Michaelson, Kate Nash, or Adele. I like stuff that's relatively low-key without being sleepy!
I have a nightly date with the "Stuff You Should Know" podcast and my dishes. I have plenty of back episodes to catch up with and the guys are funny and entertaining enough that I can get through the dreaded dishwashing.
I find that certain recipes go with specific music. Am I the only one who does this?
I mix it up between podcasts (This American Life, NPR) and music.
Mostly I listen to music but sometimes I'll put on one of the episodes of The Shadow that I found. The old commercials are my favorite parts!
Any of the above... depends on the day, the meal and the mood.
Almost always NPR. Unless <A HREF="http://thestory.org/">"The Story" with Dick Gordon</A> is on (it's like an ersatz TAL). I can't stand that show for some reason, it's like nails on a chalkboard and I scramble over myself to get it off the dial and I go find some music instead.
@Michelle of Montreal, I love when our public radio station switches over to CBC stuff and I adore "As It Happens!"
I find myself turning to BBC Radio 4 shows In Our Time and Thinking Aloud. Great for expanding your mind while you cook.
The Splendid Table also makes an appearance on occasion.
Finally, TED Talks on the iPhone and a whole collection of Old Time Radio including Fibber McGee and Molly, Have Gun, Will Travel and several detective shows.
I prop my laptop next to the sink and watch the Daily Show while making dinner or doing the dishes almost every day.
Yesterday, I made bread and listened to my Damien Rice station on Pandora. The relaxing music the peaceful rhythm of kneading was just wonderful.
I've been listening to Fitz and the Tantrums on repeat every since I discovered them through a friend that found them on NPR. Catchy, 60's soul inspired tunes that make me feel like a real housewife, which is fun every once in a while--usually, I'm a pretty non-housewifey kind of broad, but every once in a while, I like to play dress up and make cocktails before dinner. :)
