Q: I just recently bought some tomato powder to use in a bread recipe. The only other thing I could think to use it for would to be in a creamy dip or something.
Do you have any other ideas how I could use it?

Editor: We are intrigued by tomato powder, but we've never actually tried it. Its product description at suggests using it to thicken soups, and in bread and on pizza. It also mentions that you should keep it in the refrigerator, where it will last indefinitely.
Readers, anyone ever cooked with tomato powder?

I've used tomato powder to flavor both polenta and risotto...
There was a sorta recent post around here and one of the commenters said that instead of tomato paste they used tomato powder instead. I thought it was a rather brilliant idea. No waste or freezing of leftover paste, no BPA linings to think about (which are in the squeezy tubes too), takes up less room, easy to measure, etc.
Here's that post. Scroll down for the comment by G&D.

I like sprinkling it with other spices into popcorn or topping it onto savory pancakes. Really anywhere you'd like tomato flavor but do not want to add any excess moisture.
oooOOooo, maybe add it to homemade pasta dough to give it some color and then hey, you don't need any sauce ;-)
You can use tomato powder in spice rubs. I have an "Aloha Lu'au BBQ" mix which has tomato, garlic, onion, Hawaiian salt, sugar, black and red pepper in it. I wanted to make my own version so am planning on getting some tomato powder!
Spanish rice. Love the popcorn idea.
Thanks "Slow Lorus" for the recognition!
I've put it in a lot of things over the years. On top of deviled eggs, on hummus. It's been a nice addition to lox as well. My favorite though has to be on top of a croque-madame. YUM!!!!
I bought that same tomato powder from the Spice House, and really enjoyed it when I used it to flavor a vinaigrette for Macaroni Salad with Fresh Tomatoes. Seems like it would also be good to add a bit of tomato flavor to soup or stew.
I've never used it in my normal kitchen, but it is magic when I go backpacking. It makes great pasta sauce and chili. In fact, I have some of it in chili that I'll be eating while backpacking next week.
I have never heard of tomato powder. I am very intrigued!
