Q: My mom came to visit and left a 7 ounce package of artificial crab meat in my fridge when she left.
I've never used this ingredient before and I was wondering what I can do with it? Any relatively easy recipes with such a small amount?

I like it in a pasta salad. Macaroni noodles, mayo, a little mustard powder, a shake of Old Bay Spice, salt and pepper to taste and whatever veggies are on hand: broccoli, peppers, onions (green or red are a fave), maybe a kosher dill, radish... Simple, quick and tasty!
I often made this with a mixture or one of tinned tuna, imitation crab meat and/salad shrimp.
California rolls!!
make a California roll bowl. Fake crab, cucumber, sushi ginger, avocado on a bed of brown rice. Top with soy sauce/sushi ginger vinegar dressing and nori shreds.
we had the same thing too -- leftover imitation crab in the freezer left from a relative.
we made a scrambled egg dish inspired by spanish revueltos -- beat eggs, put in skillet over low heat and tossed in chopped crabmeat and some frozen peas with S&P, stirred around until just cooked through. was a quick and very easy addition to dinner.
Make California Rolls! Or just steam them and serve w/cocktail sauce :)
Um, eat it cold, right out of the package?
I use the imitation crab with Alfredo Sauce. Very good - Add a little sauteed onion too.
I'm with Schwed! I love imitation crab! I like to wrap it in those thin rice papers with a lot of veggies and dip it a peanut butter sauce. So good. Also shredded on top of whatever salad you like is really tasty!
Stir-fried with snow peas and carrots, or really any combination of vegetables.
CRAB RANGOON!!!!!
Or, the healthier suggestion of a California Roll bowl that Zorbs suggested.
Crab Rangoon!!!! OMG YUM! I'm so jealous, my Krab didn't make the cut in a recent freezer purge...
one of my favorit salads:
imitation crab meat
hard-boiled eggs
a can of sweet whole kernel corn
sauerkraut
original recipe calls for mayo (Im not a fan, therefore I substitute for light sour cream)
salt and pepper to taste
At my house, we use it to make quiche with tarragon, or in a (real) cheddar fondue with caraway seeds.
I typically saute with some butter and finely diced onion, garlic, old bay, a little pepper and serve as an appetizer with cocktail sauce and club crackers.
I like to use it to make salads for lunch at work -- lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, cheddar cheese, cuc slices or pea pods topped with the crab. Use a creamy dressing like ranch or thousand island and eat with some artisan bread or wheat crackers.
I normally just chop it, add a little chopped scallions, chopped parsley or mint, salt, pepper, and a little bit of mayo and serve it on a bun with lettuce and tomatoes.
Do you have a cat?
Stir-fry with some broccoli, thinly sliced carrots and celery, with a bit of oyster sauce for flavor.
Crab cakes
soften cream cheese on a plate, chop up Krab and sprinkle over the c. cheese, top with cocktail sauce and serve with buttery (townhouse) crackers and its a yummy SUPER EASY dip!
Vietnamese-style spring rolls, with lots of fresh herbs, beansprouts, and a spicy dip.
The two Chinese super buffet restaurants we have visited both had the same thing - imitation cut in small pieces, wrapped in bacon, skewered on a toothpick, and broiled. It's sort of retro and weird, but delicious.
With a little soy sauce and rice, veg of choice on the side.... Although the california roll bowl zorbs mentioned sounds delicious and easy as well.
Crab salad sandwich. yum!
I'm with nwatrous--"crab" salad sandwich. I like mine in a pita.
I do not think it does too well heated up.
saute crab meat in a little butter, season with salt and pepper, and add it to pasta. So simple but delicious
Chop up tomatoes, onions, cilantro, cucumbers add lemon and salt. Serve with tortilla chips or tostadas.
Hot Bacon-Crab Dip Mix 8 ounces each cream cheese and crabmeat, 1 cup crumbled cooked bacon, 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 3 chopped scallions and the juice of 1 lemon. Spread in a baking dish; top with breadcrumbs. Bake at 350 degrees F until bubbly, 30 minutes.
from the food network magazine...i made it using imitation crabmeat, added some shredded cheddar and hotsauce...and all i can say is that is was freaking amazing
i dip them into sriracha and call it a day...
Spicy tomato sauce over pasta.....
Pseudo ceviche....flake the Krab and mix with lime juice, chopped onion, copious amounts of chopped cilantro, chopped tomato, S&P and loads of hot sauce (Tapatio is my preference for this application). Let sit in the fridge for a bit (overnight is even good), then eat on tostada shells. Surprisingly good.
The flavour is mildly sweet and very tasty and goes with anything.. toss in salad, omelette, stir fries, soups, etc.. or devour it on its own. Yum.
One of my favourite breakfasts is creamy scrambled eggs topped with a sprinkling of spanish saffron, couple sprigs of fresh parsley, and a generous helping of shredded imitation crab meat. Well real crab is better, but this hits the spot too. :P
Mock Crab cakes, at least that's what I use it for
crab salad! I use this recipe, but just bake the mixture in a small casserole dish and make sandwiches after the fact: http://www.food.com/recipe/crab-salad-sandwiches-67414
Hi!
You can do this:
Marinate in a small amount of vegetable oil, vinegar and spices (to taste)
2. So far the easiest to make pickled batter. (Water, flour, salt) thick.
3. Dip slices in batter crab meat and fry in deep fat.
Mmmm!
In my hometown, we make it
1. follow the texture to make them slices and add a little Chinese dark vinegar to make a side dish.
2. add to hot pot
3. add to hot and sour soup
For a low carb high protein option try
cut celery
cucumbers
feta cheese
fake crab
1tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1tbsp vinegar
mix together, and enjoy!
